Jeremy Piven, Ryan Kwanten Face Dinosaurs in the Jungle as ‘Primitive War’ Drops First Footage

As a film enthusiast with a penchant for unique and captivating narratives, I must say that “Primitive War” has certainly piqued my interest. The blend of historical warfare and prehistoric creatures is an intriguing concept, one that promises to deliver a raw and immersive experience.

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’ve just had a sneak peek at the upcoming film “Primitive War,” produced by Sparke Films. This intriguing production promises to blend two captivating settings – the thrilling era of dinosaurs and the intense backdrop of the Vietnam War jungle. The cast includes familiar faces like Jeremy Piven, known for his role in “Entourage,” Tricia Helfer from “Battlestar Galactica” and “Lucifer,” Ryan Kwanten from “True Blood” and “Red Hill,” and Nick Wechsler, recognized from “Revenge” and “The Boys.” Needless to say, I’m eagerly anticipating this survival thriller!

In the hands of director Luke Sparke (“Occupation Rainfall,” “Bring Him To Me”), we have “Primitive War.” Originally penned by Ethan Pettus in his cult novel, this story revolves around Vulture Squad – a special reconnaissance team dispatched to a secluded jungle valley in 1968 with the mission of finding a lost Green Beret platoon. However, they stumble upon something far more terrifying: prehistoric beasts!

The movie titled “Primitive War” was primarily shot on the Gold Coast in Australia. A majority of the film crew were locals, along with expansive set designs and authentic jungle landscapes, creating an intense, realistic viewing experience.

Prior to the worldwide premiere of the movie scheduled for 2025, the international distribution of the film will be managed by Film Mode. According to Kwanten, “The filming process has been truly fantastic.

In a short three-minute video, director Sparke shares his initial experience with Pettus’s book. He describes how the captivating cover of a soldier fighting a Utahraptor instantly grabbed his attention, and Helfer explains that it’s essentially about individuals uniting, relying on their instincts to endure.

Wechsler expresses the idea as “something akin to bananas, but far surpassing expectations.” Sanson, on the other hand, refers to it as “an unprecedented fusion of war, dinosaur, and action films, drawing from each genre’s strengths.

The movie “Primitive War” was developed by Carmel Imrie and Carly Sparke, with executive producers Geoff Imrie, Luke Sparke, and Alex Becconsall. Wade Muller (“Occupation Rainfall”) served as the cinematographer, while Carly Sparke handled production design, editing, and visual effects.

The ensemble is rounded off by Anthony Ingruber (from “Age of Adaline”), Aaron Glenane (known for “Danger Close”), Carlos Sanson Jr (“Bump”) and Ana Thu Nguyen (who appeared in “Mortal Kombat 2”).
