In the premiere of Season 3 of “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” it was unveiled that Gavin Casalegno’s character, Jeremiah Fisher, belongs to a certain fraternity. The series on Amazon Prime Video started with a leap of three years, depicting Lola Tung’s character, Belly Conklin, in her junior year at Finch College and Jeremiah approaching graduation. Apart from their growing relationship, Season 3 also disclosed that Jeremiah is associated with a fraternity, much like his portrayal in Jenny Han’s third book, “We’ll Always Have Summer.
In “The Summer I Turned Pretty” Book 3 and the series, Jeremiah’s association with the fraternity played a substantial role in his relationship with Belly. His activities, such as attending fraternity parties alongside various sororities at the university, were part of his story. However, it was this fraternity affiliation that led to Jeremiah’s cheating scandal with Lacie Barone, a sorority member, which eventually resulted in the demise of their relationship.
What Frat Is Jeremiah Fisher In ‘Summer I Turned Pretty’
Although “We’ll Always Have Summer” didn’t explicitly mention Jeremiah’s fraternity, the first episode of Season 3 of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” hints that he belongs to the Beta Sigma Nu fraternity (a fictional organization created for this story).
In the 29 minute and 30 second part of Episode 1, before the start of the Finals Freakout celebrations, a name appears on the event registration board. Additionally, Jeremiah’s shirt bears the initials “BΣN,” which translate to Beta Sigma Nu from Greek letters.
The fraternity functioned as a setting that highlighted both Jeremiah’s progress and imperfections, as his involvement with it caused him to forget the things valuable to him – specifically, his priorities, which were embodied by the term ‘Belly’.
At Finch College, Beta Sigma Nu isn’t the sole prestigious fraternity; there are mentions of other social groups in Episode 1 as well.
In the TV show, a fictional fraternity known as Omega Omega Alpha is portrayed. The Pi Kappa Phi fraternity at the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina, was used as a model for Omega Omega Alpha. By digitally modifying it, the fraternity house in the series gained a fresh appearance to represent Omega Omega Alpha more accurately.
In Season 3, Episode 1 at the 16:09 mark, it was shown that a real-world fraternity, Kappa Sigma Alpha Mu, became one of the fraternities at Finch College. This organization was established in 1893 at the University of North Carolina. Its fundamental principles are brotherhood, leadership, and community service.
Simultaneously, Taylor Jewel (Belly’s closest friend and girlfriend of Steven) belongs to a sorority named Tri Phi. In the story, this sorority is referred to as Zeta Phi, which is the sister sorority of Jeremiah’s fraternity, first mentioned in Chapter 3.
Tri Phi is a real-life sorority at Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska, founded in 1938.
Another sorority, specifically Kappa Gamma Nu, made a brief appearance in the story. Notably, this portrayal is inspired by the actual Gamma Nu chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma, located in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
In the TV show, the last sorority portrayed is called Omega Alpha. Although there’s no actual Omega Alpha organization, the most similar one might be Alpha Omega – a professional Jewish dental fraternity based in Baltimore, Maryland, which was established in 1907.
