Exciting update for fans of ‘Wheel of Fortune’ and ‘Jeopardy!’: You won’t have to sneak your parents’ cable password anymore to watch new episodes of these classic game shows legitimately. Starting this fall, fresh episodes of both franchises will be streamed on Peacock and Hulu (or on Disney+ for bundle subscribers) the day after they air on local TV stations nationwide. This is a first as current season episodes of these Sony Pictures Television-produced syndicated shows are now accessible on major streaming platforms. Previously, ABC’s prime time spin-offs have been streamed next-day on Hulu. Moreover, Sony has also granted access to libraries of older episodes of both shows on these streaming services.
The news of the agreement arrives amidst an ongoing legal dispute between Sony and CBS Media Ventures regarding who can distribute these syndicated episodes to local TV stations. However, given Sony’s past experience with streaming distribution (such as licensing older seasons across various platforms), it appears they believe there won’t be a problem in this case. Let’s see if CBS shares the same perspective. As for “Wheel” and “Jeopardy”, they are set to start their 43rd and 42nd seasons respectively come September.
