Hosting Saturday Night Live is a significant milestone for actors and television personalities. Many stars aspire to host SNL, and some even find it a bit daunting, but it’s always a major event when someone hosts for the first time. Jennifer Lawrence hosted in 2013, when she was very famous for The Hunger Games, and she’s eager to return – and understandably so – though Lorne Michaels hasn’t asked her back yet.
Jennifer Lawrence Barely Remembers Her Time Hosting SNL
During an appearance on the Good Hang with Amy Phoeler podcast, the conversation turned to SNL. While the actress had left the show long before Jennifer Lawrence hosted, Phoeler was curious about Lawrence’s memories of the experience. It turns out Lawrence doesn’t remember much, as she was dealing with a really difficult time in her life while she was there. She went on to explain:
Everything felt off balance, and I had to keep retrying things because I was sick with walking pneumonia. I was under a lot of stress, juggling many responsibilities while filming one of the Hunger Games movies – I believe it was the second one. My schedule was chaotic; I’d fly to an event, attend a party, shake hands with people, then immediately return to the set, exhausted. It was a demanding time, and I was really tired.
Jennifer Lawrence was a huge star at this time, appearing in both the Hunger Games and X-Men series. She’d already received two Oscar nominations and won for Silver Linings Playbook. Given all this, it’s understandable she felt overwhelmed, and her time hosting SNL just felt like a whirlwind.
Lawrence Wants To Return And Try More Things
There’s also another reason Jennifer Lawrence wants to return to Saturday Night Live. When she was in her early twenties, she wasn’t very willing to try out new and different ideas during her appearances on the show. Now, she’d like to go back and give it another shot because she’s more open to the writers’ suggestions. As Lawrence explained:
I definitely went through a similar awkward phase. It felt like people my age were always asking me to perform or do impressions, and I just didn’t want to. I didn’t want to be the person showing off, so I’d just deflect and say I couldn’t do those things, basically making it someone else’s issue. I’d just say ‘I don’t know how’ or ‘I can’t do that.’
Jennifer Lawrence has admitted she wasn’t completely satisfied with her experience hosting Saturday Night Live. However, if she were open to returning, it could be a really appealing idea. While some actors avoid SNL because it pushes them outside their usual roles, those who take the risk often end up being part of the show’s most iconic moments.
