Halo Studios understands the importance of bringing Master Chief and the Halo series to PlayStation. They recognize the significance of this decision, wanting to both honor the franchise’s history and reach new players.
In a recent GamesRadar interview, Damon Conn, Executive Producer, and Max Szlagor, Creative Director, discussed how the game’s release on PlayStation will appeal to both longtime fans and newcomers who haven’t played the popular Xbox shooter before.
Halo devs want to “bring along series veterans”
Regarding Master Chief’s arrival on PlayStation, Conn explained that their main goal was to honor the franchise’s dedicated fans, who have supported it for nearly 25 years, while also attracting new players through this platform launch.
We’re excited to include both our long-time fans, who’ve been with the show for 25 years, and a new wave of players.
Szlagor said the developer sees Campaign Evolved as an opportunity to grow Halo’s fanbase. He explained that many people haven’t played Halo before, perhaps because they’ve always used PlayStation, changed consoles over time, or simply never got around to it. Their goal is to reconnect these players with the game and bring everyone together.
As a huge Halo fan, I was really excited to hear from Szlagor that they’re looking at bringing Halo to even more platforms. He explained that it’s all about building a bigger and better community – and honestly, that’s what we all want! They see expanding like this as a way to reconnect with old fans and bring new ones into the fold, and I think that’s fantastic.
Conn emphasized that the studio views bringing Halo to PlayStation as a significant undertaking, not just a simple expansion to a new platform. They recognize the weight of this responsibility.
We’re committed to respecting Halo’s history as we bring it to PlayStation, and we’re excited to grow the Halo universe overall. We understand this is a big responsibility and we’re taking it very seriously.
Although Halo: Combat Evolved is the first game in the Halo series to appear on PlayStation, Microsoft has previously launched other exclusive titles, such as Sea of Thieves and Forza Horizon 5, on Sony’s consoles.
Coming in 2026, Campaign Evolved will offer fresh missions and enhanced gameplay, building upon the original game from 2001.
