Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s ‘Violette’ Sets Full Cast: Matthias Schoenaerts and Melvil Poupaud Join Leila Bekhti in Studiocanal’s Drama (EXCLUSIVE)

The renowned director of “Amelie,” Jean-Pierre Jeunet, has gathered an impressive collection of well-known actors and actresses for his upcoming movie titled “Violette.” This film is inspired by Valérie Perrin’s globally successful book, “Fresh Water for Flowers” (“Changer l’eau des fleurs”), which has been purchased over 3 million times worldwide.

Actors Matthias Schoenaerts (“Rust and Bone”), Melvil Poupaud (“Jeanne du Barry”), Anouk Grinberg (“The Innocent”), Sergio Castellitto (“Conclave”) and Alban Lenoir (“Lost Bullet”) have been added to the cast and will be featured alongside Leila Bekhti, a Cesar-winning French actor known for her roles in “All Your Faces”, “My Mother, God and Sylvie Vartan”. Previously, it was announced that she would star in this production.

The movie titled ‘Violette’ is being co-produced by Carlo Degli Esposti and Nicola Serra at Palomar (responsible for ‘Piranhas’, ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’), as well as Thibault Gast and Matthias Weber at 24 25 Films (known for ‘Black Box’, ‘Kabul’). Both production companies fall under the umbrella of Mediawan. Filming began on May 5, lasting for approximately 13 weeks across various locations in Burgundy, the Paris region, and the South of France.

Written jointly by Jeunet and Guillaume Laurant, “Violette” stars Bekhti as Violette Toussaint, a cherished cemetery caretaker who enjoys her tranquil days chatting with eccentric coworkers and listening to the tales of love, loss, and life shared by countless visitors. However, this serene existence is disrupted when an enigmatic stranger arrives at her doorstep, forcing Violette to confront the tumultuous past she’s worked hard to forget, filled with secrets long buried. As she delves into these hidden truths, Violette realizes that unearthing the mysteries from her past is essential if she hopes for another shot at life and, against all odds, love. StudioCanal plans to debut sales during the Cannes film market before a worldwide release in 2026. They are not only co-producing the movie but also handling international sales and distribution directly in key markets such as France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Poland, Australia, and New Zealand.
