In a stark contrast to his reserved self off-stream, Jaylen Brown unleashed a barrage of humor during Kyrie Irving’s extended Twitch broadcast on July 11. The stream, which featured numerous appearances and laughs, was initiated by the Mavericks guard. Unsurprisingly, Brown didn’t fall short of entertaining his former Celtics teammate. As the discussion veered towards the game they would play together, Brown humorously proposed a match in the basketball video game 2K. Predictably, this prompted one of the most recurring complaints in the NBA: the player ratings in 2K, as reported by EssentiallySports.
Kyrie promptly began the conversation, giving Brown a sly grin, “Alright, let’s dive right in. What’s your rating?” This remark seemed to excite Brown. He shared, “I just ran into Ronnie in the elevator on our way here. I wish I had truly sent him off.” Kyrie quickly interjected, mimicking a protective older sibling in a buddy movie, “Hold it right there. That’s not even—hold it. Why didn’t you do something about it then?” Brown chuckled, gave a nod to Ronnie, and attempted to change the subject.
Jaylen Brown mentioned that, if given another chance, he would have confronted Ronnie 2K more directly when they encountered each other in the elevator during Kyrie’s live stream.

Instead of ignoring it, Kyrie responded jokingly, “So now you’re praising him?”, followed by a laugh. If you want to tell him to sort things out, just say so. Sort yourself out, buddy.
The incident struck a chord with both fans and players. Brown’s displeasure echoes the sentiments many pros harbor. Despite NBA2K’s accolades, its player ratings continue to provoke more debate than most All-Star picks. Time and again, Ronnie2K, the recognizable symbol of the franchise, becomes the most vulnerable target, whether it’s justified or not.
Luka’s 4 a.m. Cameo
The stream was not just full of chit-chat. While on FaceTime, Luka Doncic, a former teammate, unexpectedly appeared and exclaimed “Streamer! Streamer!” Despite being in Europe and trying to avoid fans, he couldn’t resist joining the fun. He mentioned it was 4 a.m., sounding tired. However, he persevered long enough to pledge a donation towards the cause that Irving endorses.
During Jaylen Brown’s jests and Luka’s astonishment, Irving’s live stream transformed into a fun-filled session of camaraderie, gaming, and candid discussions about the issues in 2K. It’s uncertain if Brown will eventually part ways with Ronnie2K, but it seems likely that he won’t.
