In the Harry Potter movies, Draco and Lucius Malfoy might not have had a harmonious relationship, but in reality, the actors who portray them, Tom Felton and Jason Isaacs, share a warm friendship. The two frequently express their support for each other, and when Tom Felton joined Broadway’s Harry Potter and the Cursed Child to play the adult Draco, his on-screen father took to social media to write a heartfelt tribute.
Earlier this week, it was announced that Tom Felton would return to the role of Draco Malfoy in the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. He’s the first actor from the films to come back and play the character he originated on screen, and fans were so hyped about it. Obviously, Jason Isaacs was stoked too, as he took to Instagram to sweetly write:
I can hardly wait for your birthday gift, boy! On that day, I’ll be right up there, tearing up with excitement. Love, X
It’s such a delightful gift for a birthday! Previously, Felton has taken to social media to wish Isaacs a happy birthday, and the star of The White Lotus has even celebrated his on-screen offspring’s birthday too. Given their history of publicly acknowledging another year of life, this announcement makes it all the more enjoyable.
As a film enthusiast, I can’t hide my excitement when I see Daniel Radcliffe and Tom Felton, two Harry Potter co-stars, back together again. And it’s not just any reunion; this one feels particularly significant. It’s always heartening to witness their continued support for each other over the years, but this instance is truly special.
Tom Felton, who initially brought his character to life on screen, is set to make his Broadway debut by reprising his role from Harry Potter – making him the first actor to do so on stage. Interestingly, he’s at a suitable age to portray the mature Draco in Cursed Child, and this whole experience feels like a wonderful completion of the circle.
Interestingly enough, I find myself drawn to reiterate that in “Cursed Child,” it’s me, Draco Malfoy, who has stepped into the role of a father. The play primarily revolves around our sons, Harry’s and mine, creating an intriguing dynamic between us.
It’s delightful to see the actor who portrayed his father in films expressing his enthusiasm for this fresh endeavor.
As a seasoned movie critic, it’s no wonder that I found myself among the audience cheering for Draco Malfoy at the Cursed Child performance. After all, Jason Isaacs, who played Lucius Malfoy, has been a longtime supporter of his fellow thespian in various theater productions. Moreover, he enthusiastically endorsed the release of Draco’s Harry Potter book back in 2023. So, it was only fitting that he secured a ticket to witness his performance in this highly anticipated play.
You’ve got the chance to watch Tom Felton perform live on stage when tickets for his run in “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” go on sale on June 10 at 11 a.m. ET. His performance will take place from November 11, 2025, up until March 22, 2026, so there’s ample time for you and Jason Isaacs to catch the show.
For the time being, let’s pause for a second to appreciate the camaraderie between these two actors. Later on, feel free to revisit them as the controversial yet memorable father-son duo in the Harry Potter movies on HBO Max when you’re ready.
