As a seasoned movie enthusiast with a penchant for unraveling the intricacies of plots and performances, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming film “Lunik Heist.” The casting of Jared Leto, John Mulaney, and Lupita Nyong’o under the visionary direction of Kemp Powers promises an exhilarating ride filled with suspense, humor, and a dash of the unexpected.
In the upcoming movie “Lunik Heist,” produced by Searchlight Pictures, actors Jared Leto, John Mulaney, and Lupita Nyong’o will take on leading roles. This Cold War-era caper is inspired by real events and is penned and helmed by Kemp Powers, who earned an Oscar nomination and co-directs “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” as well as wrote “One Night in Miami.
The storyline of “Lunik Heist” revolves around a covert operation undertaken by the U.S. administration to seize a Soviet spacecraft during a 1959 mission, which took place in Mexico City. This narrative is inspired by an article written by Jeff Maysh that was previously published in MIT Technology Review.
Matthew Greenfield, president of Searchlight Pictures, expressed great excitement about assembling such an outstanding crew. ‘With the exceptional skills of Jared, Lupita, and John, under the guidance of Kemp, our movie, ‘Lunik Heist,’ promises to be a thrilling, high-speed journey full of deception and unsuspecting protagonists,” said Greenfield.
Leto and Emma Ludbrook, together with Mark Johnson from Gran Via Productions, are all involved in the production under the Paradox label. Maysh is taking on the role of executive producer.
Leto clinched an Oscar due to his exceptional acting in “Dallas Buyers Club.” Among the roles he’s played, you may recognize him from films like “Blade Runner 2049,” “Requiem for a Dream,” and “House of Gucci.” In his upcoming projects, he will be featured in “Tron: Ares.
John Mulaney is a writer, stand-up comedian, and actor who’s won an Emmy. He recently developed and hosted the live comedy series “John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA” on Netflix, which will come back next year. Towards the end of this year, you can catch him on Broadway with his show “All In: Comedy About Love.” Some of his other works include “The Bear,” “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” and the Broadway production of “Oh, Hello On Broadway.
As a cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that Lupita Nyong’o earned an Oscar for her stunning performance in “12 Years a Slave.” Beyond this, she has graced our screens with her talent in films like “The Wild Robot,” “Black Panther,” and “Us.” Making her Broadway debut in the gripping drama “Eclipsed,” Lupita is set to captivate audiences once more in the Public Theater’s production of “The Twelfth Night.
Agencies such as WME, Media Talent Group, Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole are representing Powers. Leto is represented by WME and Slate PR, while Mulaney is managed by WME and Nyong’o is represented by CAA, ID PR, and Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka Finkelstein Lezcano Bobb & Dang.
Zahra Phillips, our Director of Development, will take charge of the project at Searchlight Pictures, with her updates going directly to DanTram Nguyen, who serves as the Head of Production and Development.
