For the first time in a long, long time, PS5 has sold over 100k units in its native Japan.
In a remarkable sale, the console, running on Monster Hunter Wilds and benefiting from a short-term price reduction, shifted an astounding 108,978 pieces. The majority of these sales were accounted for by the standard disc version of the PS5.
Speaking about sales figures, the PlayStation 5 standard model was purchased by 75,070 individuals, while the digital version of the PlayStation 5 was bought by 26,362 people, and the PlayStation 5 Pro saw 7,546 units sold.
As a gamer, I’ve got to say, I was blown away by Capcom’s latest masterpiece that flew off shelves worldwide, selling over eight million units in just three days! On my PlayStation 5 alone, they moved an impressive 601,179 copies. Just want to clarify though, these numbers are strictly for the physical sales – digital figures, which are becoming increasingly popular in Japan, weren’t included in this count.
To provide some context, Monster Hunter: World saw sales of approximately 1.2 million units during its first week, significantly outperforming the PlayStation 4’s 140,000 units sold during the same period. It’s important to note that the share of digital sales has grown substantially in Japan over the last few years.
This week has been quite impressive for the PS5. It’s currently experiencing its largest physical software launch yet, and its hardware performance is noteworthy as well. It’ll be intriguing to observe how long the impact of Monster Hunter will last on the system, and what its next major successor might be.
