I’m really excited about this new movie! It’s a comedy-drama directed by James L. Brooks – the guy behind classics like Terms of Endearment, so you know it’s going to be good. It’s called Ella McCay and stars Emma Mackey as a young politician who’s quickly rising through the ranks. Jamie Lee Curtis is playing her aunt, and from what I’ve heard, their dynamic is going to be a big part of the story as Emma’s character tries to balance her career and family life.
The cast of Ella McCay recently shared how the film successfully blends heartfelt emotion, compelling drama, and humor – a hallmark of the director’s previous movies. Set against the backdrop of the Obama presidency, the story focuses on Ella McCay, a woman unexpectedly thrust into a powerful role as she deals with a difficult past and challenging family dynamics. With a talented and diverse cast, the film promises to be both funny and moving for viewers.
Ella McCay is set to hit theaters on December 12, just in time for the holiday season. In addition to Mackey and Curtis, the cast features Jack Lowden, Kumail Nanjiani, Ayo Edebiri, Spike Fearn, Rebecca Hall, Julie Kavner, Becky Ann Baker, Joey Brooks, Albert Brooks and Woody Harrelson. Despite complex family dramas being a rare occurrence in theaters nowadays, Ella McCay seems like the perfect callback to an era of cinema before the boom of superhero movies. This funny story follows a hopeful young woman as she balances her career and family, exploring the joys and challenges of loving – and living with – those closest to her.
‘Ella McCay’ Star Confirms Key Role in Netflix’s ‘Narnia’
In a recent interview, actress Emma Mackey, known for her role in Ella McCay, confirmed she’ll be starring in Netflix’s upcoming Narnia adaptation, directed by Greta Gerwig. She’s taking on the role of Jadis the White Witch – a character previously portrayed by Tilda Swinton. While Mackey didn’t share many specifics, she described the experience so far as “wonderful.”
We’ve heard you’re going to be playing the White Witch in the new Narnia movie directed by Greta Gerwig – that’s exciting! Can you give us any hints about the role? Will your portrayal be different from previous versions of the character?
I can’t say much about the project right now, except that it’s been a fantastic experience so far – a real adventure. Greta Gerwig is someone I deeply admire, and she’s a wonderful person and a creative force. I feel very lucky to be working on one of her films.
