James Van Der Beek Reveals Colorectal Cancer Diagnosis: ‘There’s Reason for Optimism, and I’m Feeling Good’

As a long-time fan and admirer of James Van Der Beek‘s work, it is both heartbreaking and inspiring to hear about his recent diagnosis with colorectal cancer. I have always been impressed by his talent and dedication to his craft, but now more than ever, I am in awe of his courage and resilience.

James Van Der Beek has revealed he’s been diagnosed with colorectal cancer.

As a cinephile, I find myself compelled to share some personal news. The charismatic heartthrob from “Dawson’s Creek,” whom we’ve adored on the silver screen for years, has recently bravely faced a health challenge. In his own words, he’s been quietly grappling with a cancer diagnosis, receiving unwavering support and guidance from his remarkable family throughout this journey as he works towards finding a solution.

Van Der Beek added, “There’s reason for optimism, and I’m feeling good.”

Colon or rectal cancer, a type of cancer that starts in these areas, is the third most frequently diagnosed cancer among both males and females in the United States, as reported by the American Cancer Society. In this country, approximately 4% of men and 4% of women are expected to receive a colorectal cancer diagnosis over the course of their lives.

From 1998 to 2003, James Van Der Beek gained fame for his portrayal of Dawson Leery in the TV show “Dawson’s Creek.” He has also appeared in various other series like “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23,” “Friends With Better Lives,” “CSI: Cyber” and “Pose.” His filmography includes titles such as “Varsity Blues” (1999), “The Rules of Attraction” (2002), “Labor Day” (2013), “Downsizing” (2017) and the more recent “Bad Hair” (2020).

On the distant skyline, Ian Ziering will make an appearance on Fox’s “The Real Full Monty” to promote prostate, testicular, and colorectal cancer screenings and research. This show is modeled after the 1997 film “The Full Monty” and the unscripted format of “The Real Full Monty,” which premiered on U.K.’s ITV in 2017. In this two-hour special, several well-known male personalities such as Ziering, Anthony Anderson (“Black-ish”), Taye Diggs (“All American”), NFL player Chris Jones, Tyler Posey (“Teen Wolf”), and Bruno Tonioli (“Dancing With the Stars”) will put on a spectacular striptease dance for a live audience.

Fox’s “The Real Full Monty” special premieres Dec. 9.
