James Gunn’s Swamp Thing Story Fuels Speculation, MCU Actor Replies

A recent Instagram post from James Gunn, showing artwork of Swamp Thing, has fans buzzing about a potential new movie. A fan shared the illustration and suggested Vincent D’Onofrio (known for Daredevil: Born Again) would be a great fit for the role, and D’Onofrio himself even noticed the post. The film is already planned as part of the first wave of projects from Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe, currently titled ‘Gods and Monsters’.

James Gunn shares Swamp Thing artwork on Instagram

The Instagram account @heavymetal recently posted artwork of Swamp Thing, along with some background information about the artist, Michael Zulli. James Gunn then shared the post on his own Instagram stories.

Development on the new Swamp Thing movie has stalled, and no actor has been chosen to play the lead role yet. James Mangold, the director behind films like Logan and A Complete Unknown, is writing and directing the project. Last year, James Gunn mentioned on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that Mangold hadn’t finished the script because he was busy filming other projects. However, Gunn also said they were once again in discussions with Mangold about the film.

Rumors began circulating that the project was canceled after James Mangold announced a new deal with Paramount to create several movies. However, Mangold’s team quickly denied these rumors, telling io9 (via Gizmodo) that he was still involved with and working on ‘Swamp Thing’ and his other commitments.

James Gunn provided more details about the project in a Rolling Stone interview. He explained that director James Mangold is “still involved with the film.” Gunn also noted, “These things often take time, and we’ll see how it develops.”

I’m really excited about the Swamp Thing movie! James Mangold recently talked about it, and it sounds amazing. He said it won’t be connected to any existing universe – it’s going to be a completely standalone story. He described it as a classic, straightforward Gothic horror film, focusing on the relationship between the man and the monster. It sounds like exactly what I’ve been hoping for!

D’Onofrio, who has previously stated his enthusiasm for the character, indicated that Gunn is already aware of his strong interest.
