Worldwide viewers eagerly anticipate the arrival of Superman when his latest film debuts in July. However, one can’t help but wonder about the fate of Clark Kent’s trusted companion – none other than the World’s Greatest Detective, Batman. In January 2023, director James Gunn revealed the complete DCU schedule, which includes a movie titled The Brave and the Bold. This film appears to be the grand introduction of the DCU’s Batman, who will inhabit the same universe as Gunn and will not feature Robert Pattinson, star of “The Batman.” Instead, a new actor is set to don the cape and cowl in The Brave and the Bold.
It appears that despite numerous speculations, James Gunn, a key executive at DC Studios, has dismissed rumors suggesting that the role of Batman in the DC Universe is currently being cast as “complete nonsense.” This implies that finding a new actor for Batman might take some time. Interestingly, The Brave and the Bold, a movie directed by Andy Muschietti in 2023, has been in developmental stages for quite a while now. However, a statement from another DC Studios executive, Peter Safran, suggests that Muschietti may not be as involved with The Brave and the Bold as previously thought: “We’re currently working on the script for The Brave and the Bold, and he’ll be the first to see it.” (As reported by The Hollywood Reporter.)
Despite uncertainties about its director and main actor, it’s been confirmed that the series The Brave and the Bold will delve into the bond between Bruce Wayne and his boisterous young son, Damian. Given that Damian is the fifth Robin in comic books, it’s likely that other Bat-Family characters like Dick Grayson and Tim Drake may also appear in The Brave and the Bold. At this point, any characters beyond Batman and Damian have yet to be disclosed.
Could Batman Show Up Before The Brave and the Bold?
Given that the release date for “The Brave and the Bold” is yet to be confirmed, it’s possible that James Gunn and the creative team at DC Studios might decide to introduce Batman in a different DC Universe project before that.
Despite no formal announcements being made about it, there are several potential opportunities for Batman to appear in the upcoming lineup. However, don’t anticipate him making a brief appearance in July’s Superman. That movie is said to be completely set and finalized, not to mention that Batman hasn’t been chosen for the role yet.
Apart from Superman, the DC Universe also has upcoming projects such as Supergirl, Green Lanterns, and Peacemaker’s second season. However, these too are either already produced or very close to completion.
A specific film, “Clayface,” appears tailor-made for Bruce: Given that Clayface is a notorious villain from Batman’s rogues gallery, it’s plausible to assume that Batman might make an appearance to take on his shape-shifting adversary. However, the casting details for “Clayface” are still undisclosed, leaving only whispers in the air. The movie is set to release in September 2026.
It’s noteworthy that Batman makes an appearance in Episode 6 of Creature Commandos, though it’s more of a technicality. In the animated series, you might catch a brief glimpse of the Dark Knight from afar under the cover of night, with a flash of lightning revealing him only vaguely.
Additionally, James Gunn suggested that some artistic freedom was used in incorporating Batman’s Creature Commandos appearance, and he wasn’t fully prepared to endorse the live-action style of the vigilante.
In whichever part of the DC Universe (DCU) Batman makes his first appearance, there’s an expectation that this new interpretation of the popular character will have a stronger touch of the mysterious and supernatural compared to previous movie adaptations. Considering Bruce Wayne is part of a world filled with vibrant superheroes like Superman and Metamorpho, it wouldn’t be surprising if elements such as the giant penny and T-Rex statue were found in his Batcave.
