James Gunn reveals Eagly has “whole action sequence to himself” in Peacemaker Season 2

James Gunn is currently talking about Eagly’s potential role within the DC Universe, expressing some uncertainty about a collaboration between Eagly and Superman’s pet, Krypto. However, he did hint at an independent action scene for the bird in Season 2 of Peacemaker.

As the global release of Superman approaches, writer-director James Gunn is making media appearances for the high-profile remake.

He recently made an appearance at a record shop in London to address queries from fans regarding the DC Universe. During this session, Gunn disclosed that Star Wars and Game of Thrones had a significant impact on his creative process.

As we wrapped up our chat, the topic shifted towards the future of Peacemaker’s avian companion. I couldn’t help but wonder if there was a chance for him to team up with Superman’s trusty sidekick someday…

Eagly gets standalone action in Season 2 of Peacemaker

Peacemaker, alias Christopher Smith, cherishes his close companion, the bald eagle, who acts as a confidant, guardian, dancing partner, and comforting shoulder for the anti-hero.

Throughout Season 1, Eagly engaged in battles with police officers and the Aryan Empire, consistently fighting side by side with a human comrade. However, this dynamic is set to shift when the series resumes in August.

According to Gunn, the bird is extremely aggressive. You’re in for a treat when you watch Peacemaker Season 2 – Eagly will have an entire action sequence dedicated just to him. This might be a major spoiler for some of you.

Why Eagly won’t team up with Krypto

Later, a spectator inquired whether Eagly might collaborate with Superman’s powerful dog companion. In response, Gunn humorously remarked, ” Frankly, I believe Krypto would devour Eagly.

To illustrate his point, Gunn shared an anecdote about his pet dog Ozu, who serves as the model for Krypto. “Yesterday, my wife who is currently in Atlanta found our house, was witness to an incident where Ozu attacked a deer! Despite not being particularly large, he was biting the deer’s leg and causing it to squeal. My wife had to intervene quickly to save the frightened deer from my dog. She said it was adorable, not him attacking the deer, but rather the scared deer itself. She has never run faster in her life. He’s a real monster,” Gunn concluded.

Inquired about whether the film adaptation of Ozu’s work is less intense, Gunn responded, “Absolutely, there would be numerous deceased characters. It’d be like scenes from I Am Legend, where he tosses people around like zombies… a Superdog (Krypto) versus Zombie movie could possibly have a greater appeal than a Superdog (Krypto) and Eagle team-up.

In August 28, 2025, Peacemaker will make a comeback, and on July 11, 2025, you’ll find Superman gracing the screens. Before that date, there’s plenty to look forward to: updates about the Man of Steel post-credits scene, discussions on the possibility of a Justice League film, insights into Mr. Handsome’s role, details of changes James Gunn implemented after test screenings, and an explanation for why this Superman chooses to wear trunks over his tights.
