James Gunn seems frustrated with fans continually criticizing the delay in producing The Batman 2. In simpler terms, he’s asking them to stop bothering director Matt Reeves about it.
Initially, Warner Bros announced plans for The Batman sequel in April 2022. Exactly a year later, it was set to be released in 2025, but that date got pushed back to October 2026… and then there was another delay, moving the release to October 1, 2027.
Fans are left pondering and anxious about recent developments, particularly questioning whether the movie has quietly been shelved and if Robert Pattinson will take on the role of Batman in the DC Universe.
Luckily, it’s confirmed that The Batman 2 is moving forward, and Gunn urges fans to be patient with Reeves as he meticulously works on the script.
James Gunn says “get off Matt Reeves’ nuts” about The Batman 2
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn was asked for an update on The Batman 2.
We’ve been told there will be a script arriving in June, and I really hope that happens. To be honest, we’re quite optimistic about it. Matt is particularly excited, and we chat about it often. Honestly, I can’t contain my own excitement. So, while we haven’t had a chance to read the scripts yet, if that’s what you meant, we can hardly wait!
Give Matt some space with his screenwriting; everyone should allow him the time he requires to complete his work at his own pace.
You shouldn’t expect him to give you something just because you enjoy his film. After all, it’s Matt that makes his movies enjoyable. Therefore, let Matt handle things in his own style.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve heard whispers that during the creation of the sequel’s script, Reeves has been grappling with personal matters. Now, he might not be tuned into every comment fans post online, but director Gunn admitted he gets “irritated” by certain folks like me.
He simply implied that it’s unnecessary for people to act as if they own the screenplay. He’ll share it with him once he feels confident about it. However, Matt won’t pass on the screenplay until he’s satisfied with it himself.
In an exclusive sit-down, I opened up about the transformation of The Brave and the Bold, a comic series that’s close to my heart. You see, I felt it necessary to switch Superman’s original moniker for reasons that I believe will resonate with fans even more.
