James Gunn clarified that a rumor about the submission of The Batman 2‘s script being imminent was not accurate, as reported earlier. However, this is according to the head of DC.
According to a report from Puck News, it was announced that director Matt Reeves would be handing over his long-awaited script on Monday (June 25). This follows several postponements and uncertainty about Robert Pattinson’s role as Batman within the larger film series.
Additionally, the report implied that both Gunn and his co-CEO, Peter Safran, had already requested the script over a year prior, and tensions have been mounting within Warner Bros. Discovery – even reaching the level of CEO David Zaslav.
Instead of saying “Gunn stated he’s ‘mostly quit’ debunking rumors on social media,” you could rephrase it as “Gunn primarily stopped debunking rumors on social media, but he did address this specific one on Threads.
James Gunn says The Batman 2 script hasn’t been handed in
A fan asked Gunn if the report was accurate, and he concisely replied: “It’s not true.”
In my gaming world, I didn’t find any other details mentioned in the Puck report. For instance, they hinted at a potential start of production in January 2026, following Pattinson’s wrap on Dune 3 (though it’s not officially confirmed yet, but let’s face it, he’ll probably be there).
As a devoted supporter, I’ve been keeping an eye on the ongoing buzz surrounding James Gunn’s continued association with DC Films despite whispers about their potential separation due to his reputation for taking time with projects and personal matters. Yet, Gunn has consistently shown his backing for the director through social media posts and interviews, which gives me hope that we might still see some amazing work from this dynamic duo!

According to Gunn’s statement, he anticipated receiving the script for the sequel by the end of June, which could possibly mean this coming Monday, specifically June 30.
He expressed optimism and enthusiasm about the situation. Matt is particularly enthusiastic, and they frequently discuss it. Frankly, I’m equally excited as well. They can hardly contain their anticipation to read the scripts, but they haven’t done so yet. If that’s your inquiry, that’s where things stand.
Give Matt some space to work on his screenplay at his own pace. It’s not about fulfilling anyone’s expectations, but rather it’s about appreciating his work for who he is as a creator. After all, you appreciate his movies because of him, so let him continue working in his unique way.
