Following the tantalizing sneak peek of Peacemaker Season 2‘s trailer hinting at the incorporation of the multiverse within the DC Universe, director James Gunn has spoken up about whether the upcoming installment will incorporate aspects from the now-cancelled DCEU. In a recent chat, he disclosed that the second season of Peacemaker will exhibit two dimensions, offering insights into how the series will manage the shift from the DCEU spearheaded by Zack Snyder to the reimagined DC Universe.
James Gunn confirms Peacemaker Season 2 will be ‘about two dimensions’
During a recent chat, one of the co-CEOs at DC Studios admitted that while Season 2 of Peacemaker promises a complex narrative, it doesn’t necessarily signify that it will connect the DCEU (DC Extended Universe) with their new DCU (DC Universe).
James Gunn shared with Rolling Stone that Peacemaker Season 2 is centered around two different dimensions, which forms the crux of the series. However, it’s important to note that these aren’t traditional divisions like the old DCEU and the DCU. Instead, this concept is handled in a unique way, clearly established in the season where much of Season 1 remains canon, but certain elements are not.
Significantly, the Peacemaker series emerged as one of the last productions during the active period of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). But with Gunn essentially restarting the franchise through his latest Superman movie, there’s been speculation about how the experienced director will handle characters like John Cena’s Christopher Smith, who have been featured in both the DCEU and DC Universe.
In response to a pressing query, James Gunn explained that he discussed with Steve Agee and Jen Holland each episode of Peacemaker, clarifying what is considered canonical and what isn’t. Essentially, he corrected minor details from Peacemaker Season 1 that aren’t part of the canon, like Aquaman, but most of the content remains consistent with the established storyline.
After the airing of Peacemaker Season 2 on August 21, 2025, we can expect a clearer understanding of the subject matter that will unfold.
