Six months before Avatar 3 arrives at theaters, horror film enthusiasts can look forward to James Cameron’s subsequent venture with anticipation.
In terms of cinematic grandeur, no one dares to tackle ambitious projects quite like James Cameron. Ranging from Avatar and Titanic to The Terminator and Aliens, he consistently elevates concepts to new heights.
In December 2025, a fierce new Na’vi tribe is expected to debut in Fire and Ash, living up to its name as suggested by the title. At present, specifics are sparse, but more details will be revealed over time. Avatar 4, scheduled for release in 2029, should provide additional insights.
Meanwhile, Cameron isn’t slowing down. In the interim, we’ve caught a glimpse of his upcoming venture, which promises to be a blend of horror and adventure.
James Cameron to adapt “horror adventure” The Devils after Avatar 3
In an announcement, Cameron made clear that his firm, Lightstorm, has obtained the licensing rights for “The Devils,” a forthcoming horror-adventure novel from writer Joe Abercrombie, slated for release in 2025. The filmmaker intends to produce a film adaptation of the book, collaborating with Abercrombie to create the screenplay.
The director described “The Devils” as follows: a cleverly humorous and terrifying journey, an intense fight between good and evil in which it’s often unclear who is who, or a stylishly twisted medieval tale set in an alternate universe where your only hope for survival might be the monsters themselves.
Joe Abercrombie is at his best in this work, introducing a fresh universe teeming with appealing characters. The plot unfolds swiftly, filled with unexpected twists and turns, all delivered with Joe’s trademark sharp humor and style.
In a unique approach, “The Devil” portrays Joe’s cynical perspective on human nature, revealing its dark, self-centered aspects through characters that are far from human. However, Joe continually hints at possibilities of redemption, which add an intriguing twist and ultimately make it a deeply emotional tale.
JAMES CAMERON IS ABERCROMBIE FAN AND WANTS TO ADAPT DEVILS WHAATTTTTT

He went on saying, “For years, I’ve admired Joe’s writing, savoring each new reading experience throughout the entire First Law series, particularly Best Served Cold (I absolutely adore it!) and the Age of Madness trilogy. However, the originality of the world and the characters in The Devil’s tale was what ultimately motivated me to purchase one of his books and collaborate with him to adapt it for the screen.
I’m excited about collaborating on the writing with him, as I believe that the adaptation we’re working on seems to be practically self-writing due to Joe’s unique ability to write in vivid scenes and with a cinematic structure. As I wrap up Avatar: Fire and Ash, I can’t help but look forward to this fresh opportunity to breathe life into these unforgettable characters.
According to the summary of “The Devils”, Brother Diaz receives a call to the Holy City, expecting recognition and a significant spiritual assignment. However, his congregation consists of cold-blooded killers, sorcerers who practice dark arts, and actual monstrous beings. The task given to him will necessitate violent actions from everyone involved in order to fulfill its noble objectives.
Based on the Avatar series timeline as stated by James Cameron, and considering his own words, it’s reasonable to assume that the development of The Devil project will likely occur between movies 3 and 4, placing it within the next four years from the current timeframe.
For now, feel free to discover some exciting films to stream this month, and see where “Avatar” ranks among our top science fiction movies ever made.
