James Cameron expressed dismay at the possibility of Donald Trump’s re-election and is glad that his New Zealand citizenship is about to be granted. During an appearance on “The F-Word” podcast (reported by The Daily Beast), he was asked for his reaction to Trump being elected president again, to which he replied, “I find it abhorrent, I find it terrifying.
Cameron remarked, ‘We’re veering away from all that is honorable.’ He believes that America loses its essence if it strays from its historical values. It transforms into an empty concept, and he thinks they are emptying it out rapidly for their advantage.
As a movie enthusiast, I’ve been spending most of my time in New Zealand rather than the U.S., as it’s where I’ve been immersed in filming and developing the “Avatar” series for over a decade now. Since we’re all connected globally, I can’t say that I feel any more secure here compared to other places.
I can’t help but feel relieved when this news isn’t splashed across the headlines every day. It’s disheartening indeed, and I appreciate that some New Zealand publications have the decency to relegate it to page three. Frankly, I’ve had enough of seeing his image on the front page. It’s a constant reminder that’s as unavoidable as witnessing a tragic accident repeatedly.
Regarding his upcoming New Zealand citizenship, Cameron expressed that it holds significant value to him and stated, “It’s something I’ve strived for, something I’ve had to make sacrifices for.
The director expressed, “If you decide to relocate your entire family and settle somewhere new, it’s crucial to invest time, participate, and establish a sense of belonging. In essence, one should earn the privilege to be a part of this community… Here, there’s an inherent expectation and appreciation for mutual respect. Everyone holds an equal value as individuals, which I admire greatly. This is the kind of environment I wanted my children to grow up in.
At present, Cameron is working in the post-production phase of the third “Avatar” film, named “Avatar: Fire and Ash.” This movie is scheduled to hit theaters on December 19, distributed by Disney and 20th Century Studios. Additionally, there are two more “Avatar” sequels planned, with some portions of these already filmed.
