As a seasoned cinema enthusiast with a profound appreciation for historical epics and a soft spot for tales of resilience, I eagerly await the upcoming film “Last Train from Hiroshima,” directed by none other than James Cameron. With his exceptional storytelling prowess, demonstrated in blockbusters like Titanic, Terminator, and Avatar, this project promises to be a poignant and riveting journey that delves into the untold stories of World War II.
Movie director James Cameron has acquired the rights to Charles Pellegrino’s forthcoming book titled “Ghosts of Hiroshima,” which is scheduled for release by Blackstone Publishing in August 2025, marking the 80th year anniversary since the bomb was dropped in 1945.
Cameron intends to merge and modify “Ghosts” and Pellegrino’s 2015 book “The Last Train from Hiroshima,” and once the production of “Avatar” is complete, he plans to film this combined project under the title “The Last Train from Hiroshima.
The movie will recount the authentic tale of a Japanese individual surviving two atomic bombings during World War II. Having survived the blast in Hiroshima, he boarded a train and experienced another explosion in Nagasaki. For more than two decades, James Cameron, who worked with Pellegrino as a science consultant on both “Avatar” and “Titanic”, has been eager to bring this compelling story to cinemas.
Cameron is set to embark on his first narrative feature director project outside of the “Avatar” franchise since 1997, having directed “Titanic”. Notably, he has also worked on films like “The Terminator”, “Aliens”, “The Abyss”, “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” and “True Lies”. In addition to these, he has ventured into documentaries with projects such as “Ghosts of the Abyss”, “Aliens of the Deep” and “Expedition: Bismarck”.
As a passionate movie fan, I’m thrilled to share that I, working behind the scenes at The Story Factory, have been instrumental in sealing the deal for the upcoming “Avatar” projects. You might remember me from my previous collaboration with the director on the screenplay for “Avatar: The Way of Water.” I’m excited to announce that I’ll be rejoining forces with the director for “Avatar: Fire and Ash” and the subsequent sequels in this awe-inspiring franchise.
Pellegrino is being represented by Salerno’s “The Story Factory” for managing global rights sales of his upcoming book. This information was initially reported by Deadline.
