The James Bond franchise is starting fresh after Daniel Craig finished his run as 007. The next Bond film will be made at Amazon MGM Studios, and Denis Villeneuve, the director of Dune, will be directing.
Currently, no actor has been officially chosen to play James Bond. While fans are suggesting Henry Cavill, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Taron Egerton, industry insiders are most often mentioning Callum Turner. Turner recently responded to the rumors about potentially taking on the role at the Berlin Film Festival.
The actor is currently doing publicity for his new movie, Rosebush Pruning. But early in the press conference, a reporter quickly brought up rumors about him potentially being cast as James Bond, wanting to address it right away.
Turner acknowledged the question was premature and stated he wouldn’t be discussing it further.
Director Karim Aïnouz and Tracy Letts, his co-star, also offered support. Letts playfully claimed, “I’m sorry, I’m the next James Bond!” Turner responded with a lighthearted, “Tracy, I thought you weren’t going to say anything.”
Karim Aïnouz was asked to describe his take on James Bond. Producer Barbara Broccoli quickly clarified that Aïnouz was directing her vision for the character.
Turner’s response is certainly noteworthy. Unlike previous contenders who’ve either openly campaigned for the part, such as Cavill, or dismissed the idea, like Egerton, his approach is different.
Promoting her new film wasn’t the time to overshadow everything with news of a big, new role. Turner was in Berlin to publicize Rosebush Pruning, a darkly comedic thriller that premiered on February 14th and was nominated for the Golden Bear award.
The movie features a talented cast including Pamela Anderson, Riley Keough, Elle Fanning, Jamie Bell, Elena Anaya, and Lukas Gage.
