Jake Paul, Mike Tyson Fight Card Draws 108 Million Viewers Globally, Netflix Says

As a seasoned movie buff with over three decades of binge-watching under my belt, I must say that the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul boxing match on Netflix has truly knocked out all expectations! This event, with its whopping 108 million viewers worldwide, has undeniably proved to be a global phenomenon and set a new bar for sporting events on streaming platforms.

108 million people from around the globe tuned in to watch the Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul boxing event, as revealed by Netflix on Tuesday.

Based on Netflix’s reports, this fight was the most-watched global sporting event in history, drawing an estimated average of 108 million live viewers worldwide. At its peak, it had 65 million simultaneous streams, with 38 million happening within the United States alone. The total AMA (Average Minute Audience) estimates are derived from TVision data in the U.S. and internal data from other global markets.

During the last seven days, the sports streaming event held the number one spot on Netflix, attracting a total of 46.6 million viewers until Sunday evening.

Initially, it was disclosed that approximately 60 million households worldwide watched the boxing match between Paul and Tyson, while around 50 million households globally tuned in live for the secondary event featuring Serrano vs. Taylor 2. However, Netflix has revised these figures. The Taylor-Serrano fight is now estimated to have had a global live viewership of about 74 million, making it the most-watched professional women’s sports event in U.S. history with around 47 million viewers in the U.S. alone.

In the eighth round, Paul, aged 27, emerged triumphant against the previous world heavyweight titleholder, Tyson (who is 58 years old), via a consensus verdict.

Beyond the much-anticipated Paul vs. Tyson match, the main event also showcased an acclaimed rematch between Katie Taylor, the undisputed super lightweight champion, and Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano, the unified featherweight champion. In this repeat bout, Taylor edged out Serrano once more, albeit in a contentious unanimous decision. Previously, Taylor had emerged victorious in their first encounter through a split decision. Additional fights included a clash between Mario Barrios and Abel Ramos for the WBC welterweight world title that resulted in a split draw, as well as Neeraj Goyat’s victory over Whindersson Nunes via unanimous decision.

During the Paul-Tyson Friday fight event, Netflix’s biggest live production yet, viewers encountered technical issues such as lagging and buffering. These problems were not new for Netflix live events; in fact, a significant number of users had faced similar challenges during past events like the “Love Is Blind” reunion special. Unfortunately, this particular reunion special was only accessible live by a limited number of subscribers, and it wasn’t fully available on the platform until after its scheduled air date.
