The boys are back in town, and Jackass 5 promises more laughs and more pain.
It’s been four years since the last Jackass movie, and Johnny Knoxville just shared exciting news for fans who’ve followed the series since 2000. He announced that the crew is making one final movie, which will hit theaters on June 26th.
At CinemaCon, Paramount unveiled the trailer for the fifth Jackass movie. Johnny Knoxville introduced the trailer, jokingly saying he’d try to stay composed while presenting what he called the final Jackass film. He revealed the movie’s official title is Jackass: Best and Last. The trailer featured classic footage, as well as a new addition to the crew: a robot that ends up giving a hilariously painful medical exam, staying true to the Jackass style.
Originally starting as an MTV reality show from 2000 to 2002, Jackass was created by Johnny Knoxville, Spike Jonze, and Jeff Tremaine. It quickly became famous for its risky stunts, funny pranks, and memorable personalities like Steve-O, Bam Margera, and Wee Man, ultimately becoming a part of popular culture. The series continued with several films, including Jackass: The Movie (2002), Jackass Number Two (2006), Jackass 3D (2010), Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa (2013), and Jackass Forever (2022).
The trailer for the new Jackass movie was a hit at CinemaCon, making audiences both laugh and cry as the cast – including some new faces – prepares to wrap up the 26-year-old series. While Jackass 3D was the most successful film in the franchise, earning $171 million worldwide, the 2022 movie brought in $80 million globally and introduced viewers to Zach Holmes, Sean “Poopies” McInerney, Jasper Dolphin, Eric Manaka, and Rachel Wolfson.
The film will feature Bam Margera, who has publicly separated himself from Johnny Knoxville and the Jackass crew. He’ll appear in previously unreleased footage, after being removed from Jackass Forever for allegedly breaking a “wellness agreement.”
I’ve been following the situation with Bam Margera and it’s really heartbreaking. He’s made it clear how hurt he is by what happened with the Jackass crew – he feels betrayed, especially after they insisted on and paid for his treatment, only to then exclude him from the movie and get into legal battles. He’s said he wouldn’t do another Jackass film with them for any amount of money, saying the damage is already done. It’s good to see that Johnny Knoxville still cares about Bam, though. He’s publicly expressed his love for him and genuinely wants to see him get better and stay healthy, which is a small comfort in all of this.
Jackass: Best and Last will crash land into theaters on June 26.
