Jack Black Says the ‘SNL’ Audition He Axed Was Dressing Up as the Hulk and Doing an ‘Art Dance Where I Crush Things With My Foot’

Jack Black had planned his “Saturday Night Live” audition meticulously, but in the end opted not to attend the trial for the late-night comedy series.

In a chat with Amy Poehler on her “Good Hang” podcast, Black shared the act he would have performed if he had auditioned for “Saturday Night Live.

Black mentioned he had a concept that he failed to act upon. He doesn’t want to revisit it as it seems foolish now in his thoughts. However, his audition would have been about portraying a superhero character he invented.

He shared that his audition would’ve been a comical imitation of the renowned Marvel character, the Hulk, blended with an expressive dance piece for artistic expression.

He mentioned he couldn’t recall its name, but it resembled a blend of The Hulk, or perhaps it was solely The Hulk. His plan was to enter as The Hulk, performing an unusual mix of dance and physical theater, symbolizing destruction. This would involve stomping on things with his foot, followed by a mime act where he’d simulate the earth splitting apart.

Black admitted that he tried it out a few times in his living room by practicing it in front of a mirror, yet he had a sense of hesitation and never ultimately decided to go through with an audition.

Amy Poehler told Justin Black that he “could’ve fit right in as a cast member,” but Justin explained that the intense workload of Saturday Night Live wouldn’t have aligned with his lifestyle.

Black stated, ‘It’s hard for me to manage something regularly. Every two decades feels like a better pace for such an undertaking.’
