Jack Black Says Tenacious D Will ‘Be Back’ Following Tour Cancellation Due to Kyle Gass’ Trump Shooting Remark: ‘These Things Take Time’

As a long-time fan of Tenacious D and Jack Black, I have to say that the recent controversy surrounding the band has been disheartening but not unexpected. The duo has always had a knack for pushing boundaries and making us laugh, but sometimes they cross the line. In this case, Kyle Gass’s comment about Donald Trump was clearly in poor taste and Jack’s decision to cancel the tour was the right call.

Jack Black has expressed thoughts about the potential continuation of Tenacious D following an inflammatory statement from Kyle Gass concerning Donald Trump’s July assassination attempt. This comment led to the cancellation of their recent tour by Black.

Black mentioned that it’s necessary for everyone to have some downtime, and they expressed this to Marc Malkin from EbMaster during the “Borderlands” premiere on Tuesday evening. They added, “We’ll return after taking a brief hiatus.”

I’ve been asked if I’ve spoken with Gass since our tour got canceled, and I responded, “Indeed, we remain friends. Our friendship isn’t altered by this event. Sometimes, things need time to resolve… And we’ll reunite when the moment feels appropriate.”

Additionally, Black displayed the enchanting guitar pick featured in the 2006 humorous film “Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny.”

Black commented on the red carpet, “Check out what I’m wearing today: I chose The Pick of Destiny.” “I’m a huge fan of Tenacious D,” he added. “If you could label it as such, it might be my favorite role. It’s more like a masterpiece, it’s my precious creation.”

Last month, Black announced on social media that he was canceling Tenacious D‘s current tour amid blowback against Gass, who made a controversial comment at the band’s concert in Australia related to the assassination attempt on Trump.

Tenacious D played at ICC Sydney Theatre on July 15, following the shooting incident at Trump’s rally in Butler, Pa., where the ex-president got hit by a bullet. During their performance in Australia, Black surprised Gass with a birthday cake on stage, as it was his 64th birthday. When Black requested Gass to make a wish, he quipped: “Let’s hope Trump misses next time.”

“On Sunday’s event, I was taken aback by certain remarks. It’s important to clarify that I don’t endorse or support any form of hate speech or political violence,” Black stated previously.

After careful contemplation, I find myself compelled to make a change in my plans. The Tenacious D tour and any forthcoming creative projects will temporarily halt. To my devoted fans, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support and understanding during this time.

As I gaze into the distance, I find myself starring alongside the illustrious Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, and Jamie Lee Curtis in the thrilling sci-fi comedy flick, “Borderlands.” In this adventure, I lend my voice to a versatile robot character named Claptrap, borrowed from the popular role-playing game series that serves as the film’s foundation.

“Black expressed that joining the ‘Borderlands’ film felt destined, as if it were written in the stars, galaxies, and even the universe itself. He frequently ponders the concept of the multiverse – with countless different realities existing – and considers himself incredibly fortunate to be in this one. He believes that this is the best Jack Black reality.”

“Borderlands” hits theaters Friday.
