As a movie buff with a deep appreciation for independent films and stories that highlight underrepresented communities, I am thrilled to hear that “Little English” will be available on ITVX during South Asian Heritage Month. This film, directed by the talented Pravesh Kumar in his directorial debut, is a testament to the power of storytelling and the importance of representation in media.
ITV, a free-to-air television broadcaster based in the U.K., plans to make the independent British South Asian film “Little English” available for streaming on its ITVX platform.
At the U.K. National Film Awards, “Little English” by new director Pravesh Kumar, who’s known for his work in theater, has been nominated for best feature film. This moving story revolves around Simmy, a newlywed Punjabi woman, whose husband-to-be suddenly vanishes. As she navigates this unexpected predicament, Simmy forms an unexpected bond with her brother-in-law, Harry. Their friendship blossoms into something more secretive and romantic.
In early 2023, I was thrilled to witness the remarkable success of a film I admire greatly in cinemas. This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the valuable support of organizations like the BFI Audience Fund and National Lottery funding. The passionate team at Central City Media played a significant role in helping producers Resource Productions connect with an underrepresented diaspora audience. Since December 2023, I’ve had the privilege of accessing this film on pay-per-view platforms in the U.K. And, I eagerly anticipate its upcoming release on streaming platforms across the United States later this year.
During the annual South Asian Heritage Month from July 18 to August 17 on ITVX, you can access the limited collection of content titled “Little English.”
Darren Nartey, ITV’s senior acquisitions manager, expressed pride over ITVX featuring “Little English” during South Asian Heritage Month. Users can explore a rich collection of films and programs on ITVX, showcasing the vibrant cultures of the South Asian diaspora.
Kumar expressed his excitement: “When we produced this movie post-pandemic, it was a heartfelt project. I’m delighted that our unique and warm-hearted family comedy can now reach a large audience through one of the country’s major television networks.”
Dominique Unsworth, the producer, expressed: “It’s a wonderful sign that a major broadcaster has chosen our production. This indicates a large, eager international audience who are keen on what we have to offer in this competitive market for independent producers.”
