However, the decline in ITV Studios revenue due to production disruptions from strikes is disappointing and highlights the challenges of managing such a vast production operation.
As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I’ve been closely following ITV’s financial journey this year. The first half of 2024 presented a complex picture for this esteemed British broadcaster. Their revenue showed signs of growth but was overshadowed by escalating expenses, reflecting the ongoing challenges in adapting to an ever-evolving media landscape.
ITV announced a notable gain of over 40%, amounting to £213 million ($274.5 million), in their earnings before interest, taxes, and amortization (EBITA) for the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2024. This impressive advancement was achieved even with a 2% decrease in total external revenue, which amounted to £1.6 billion ($2.06 billion).
ITV Studios, the manufacturing branch of the corporation, saw a drop of 13% in earnings, amounting to £869 million. The primary reason behind this reduction was the ongoing impact of the U.S. writers’ and actors’ strikes in 2023. These work stoppages resulted in production schedules being disrupted and content delivery being delayed.
In good news, ITV’s Media and Entertainment sector experienced notable expansion. The total advertising revenue rose by 10% to reach £889 million, while digital advertising revenues showed impressive gains with a 17% increase.

CEO Carolyn McCall spoke about the outcomes, remarking, “ITV has undergone significant change over the past five years and we’re still making it better. I’m optimistic that we’ll achieve higher adjusted EBITA for the entire year, emphasizing our strides in ITV’s digital evolution.”
