As someone who has spent countless hours engrossed in the world of horror, I must say that “It’s What’s Inside” has certainly piqued my interest. The film presents a unique blend of suspense, thrill, and a dash of dark humor that is reminiscent of the best of Black Mirror episodes.
The recently released horror film “It’s What’s Inside” has been generating quite a buzz and debate among viewers on Netflix, as they ponder over a minor but intriguing query concerning one of the characters.
The idea behind the story is delightfully straightforward – on the eve of a wedding, a circle of old college acquaintances gather together again, but things take a turn for the wild when their long-lost companion shows up with a gadget that enables them to swap bodies.
Following the cast of characters can sometimes be challenging, yet it’s an enjoyable part of the experience. Moreover, Director Greg Jardin’s latest film offers a visually captivating spectacle, with its vibrant color palette and skillful cinematography adding to the sense of confusion.
Starting October 4th, “It’s What’s Inside” has been swiftly climbing up Netflix’s Top 10 Movies chart, now holding the seventh spot. Additionally, it has garnered a favorable 81% rating from film critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Proceed with caution as we delve into potential spoilers!
It’s What’s Inside ending sparks one complaint
Simultaneously, home viewers have been engaged in analyzing the storyline. Though it’s garnering a lot of applause, one concern that’s surfaced is whether Cyrus was truly justified in serving a life sentence.
Initially, it’s evident that Cyrus (James Morosini) displays some unsavory behavior. He fails to show Shelby (Brittany O’Grady) the respect she deserves, and he seems overly infatuated with their mutual friend Nikki (Alycia Debnam-Carey), spending excess time admiring her.
Prior to the party, in an effort to persuade her boyfriend, Shelby tries to fulfill one of his fantasies. She dons a blonde wig, presumably to resemble Nikki better.
Cyrus clearly expresses his feelings following the first body-swap. While occupying Reuben’s (Devon Terrell) form, he feigns being Forbes (David Thompson) and shares a kiss with Nikki, who happens to be inhabited by Maya (Nina Bloomgarden) at that moment.
In the second round, Shelby finds herself inhabiting Nikki’s body, leading to a curious development. Meanwhile, Reuben winds up in Dennis’ (played by Gavin Leatherwood), and Brooke takes Maya’s place.
The couple began to develop a romantic relationship on the balcony, but it collapsed, resulting in their fatal fall. Consequently, Dennis and Maya are now deceased, which has a ripple effect throughout the entire group.
They have a disagreement on their course of action, with Cyrus, temporarily inhabiting Forbes’s body, advocating for everyone else to revert back, except Dennis and Maya, who he proposes should assume control over Reuben and Brooke’s current bodies instead.
Dennis isn’t satisfied with this setup, and he becomes so upset that he chooses to phone the police, pretending to be someone named Cyrus, and falsely admits to shoving Dennis and Maya off the balcony. The situation escalates as everyone awaits the arrival of the police, each group coming up with their own schemes.
In a conversation between Shelby and Cyrus, Shelby proposes an idea: if Cyrus were to enter Reuben’s body and leave the person currently residing there to face imprisonment, she would take refuge in Nikki’s body. This way, they could both escape and elude capture together.
Cyrus concurs, revealing at last Shelby’s deep-seated emotions towards Nikki. Unbeknownst to him, however, the exchange of feelings only highlights for Shelby the persistent unhappiness she experiences from continually pursuing his validation and affection.
By the end of the new movie, Cyrus and Shelby are the only ones sent back to their original bodies, meaning Cyrus is sent to prison for the murders of Dennis and Maya.
Though some found his behavior less than desirable, not everyone feels he merited such a severe punishment as spending the rest of his life in prison,” is a paraphrased version that maintains the original sentiment while using more polite and respectful language.
One person responded, “Not at all. He was terrible, no doubt, but not that terrible. Honestly, I can’t stand Shelby after everything she did in the film. By the end of it, I found myself hating her intensely.
Initially, she intended to preserve Nikki’s remains, while allowing Cyrus to languish in prison unjustly. Moreover, she manipulated his thoughts under the instructions of Beatrice.
Initially, he aimed to return to his own physical form. However, she suggested an alternative perspective. In my opinion, he ultimately didn’t wish to remain in Forbes’s form anymore.
A third person commented, “Cyrus was truly irritating from the get-go and so is she, I must say. Frankly, it might have been more fitting for her to aid him in the end since they seemed to belong together.
A fourth individual commented, “I find it hard to comprehend why I should agree with Shelby’s perspective by the end of the movie, given all the questionable actions she took towards others. While Cyrus was indeed a problematic boyfriend, it seems excessive that he should be imprisoned for it, chuckling.
However, others have pointed out the fact that all of the characters are flawed. “All of the characters were bad people and all were willing to let Cyrus take the fall,” said one.
One possibility for paraphrasing the given text in natural and easy-to-read language could be: “None of them acted on what they could have done, yet I felt understanding towards all of them. Reuben is a cheater, Brooke sleeps with her friend who is about to get married, while Maya thinks she’s kissing Forbes, who has a girlfriend.

I must admit, I’ve been quite disappointed by horror movies lately, but this one was exciting, engaging, and simply enjoyable.” Another praised it by saying, “This was a fun movie, and I really appreciated the visuals.
It’s What’s Inside had “darker” alternate ending
According to director Jardin, it’s gratifying for him that the film’s conclusion has ignited discussion. He shared with Variety his delight in discovering that people hold diverse views about the ‘moral implications’ of the ending, a fact that truly intrigues him.
Initially, “It’s What’s Inside” had a more somber conclusion; this is what he subsequently disclosed. In the altered ending, instead of Shelby leaving Nikki’s body, it was Nikki who went to see him in prison and told him to go away.
As we delved into our work with the cast, refining the film’s tone and integrating the music cue, it became clear that the finale would showcase a grand triumph. However, we chose to alter it so that Shelby regains control of her own body once more. This change felt like a more meaningful victory for her character, according to Jardin.
Originally, I envisioned the story to have a Black Mirror-like twist, where the protagonist achieves their goal but leaves audiences feeling unsettled. However, upon reflection, it appears that her character development could be deeper and less extreme in its darkness.
Will there be a sequel?
Despite It’s What’s Inside 2 not yet receiving approval, filmmaker Jardin is open to the prospect of creating a sequel for his horror movie.
There’s still a lot more story left to unfold, particularly following the surprising twist in which we learned that the character known as Forbes wasn’t really Forbes; instead, it turned out to be his sister Beatrice (played by Madison Davenport).
She chose to operate the bodily transfer device to inhabit her brother’s form, attend his pre-wedding gathering, and seek revenge on Dennis, who slept with her during high school, left her institutionalized afterwards.
When in Dennis’s physical form, Beatrice utilizes his mobile device to move his trust fund assets into an overseas account under her name.
Ultimately, she finds herself inhabiting Nikki’s physical form. The movie concludes with her setting off towards the horizon, now an influencer and in possession of the device for body swaps along with Dennis’ wealth.
As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but express my excitement when I consider the possibility of an It’s What’s Inside sequel. Ever since Sundance, I’ve been inundated with questions about it, and I must admit, I was taken aback. However, at this moment, there are no definite plans for a sequel in the works. Only time will reveal the future of this captivating series.
