It's Hard to Earn Money in CarX Street PC, Developers Forgot about Microtransactions

As a seasoned racer who grew up with the thrill of Need for Speed, I find myself yearning for that arcade racing fix that the series has left vacant since Unbound’s lukewarm reception. The current market is sparse, with NFS Heat being the only notable contender, and indie games daringly making their way into the fray. One such game is CarX Street, which recently graced our PC screens, but alas, it falls short of the mark.

The popular racing game franchise Need for Speed has left a gap in the arcade racing market, with its latest release, Unbound, receiving lukewarm reception when it debuted about two years ago, and not attracting a large audience (according to SteamDB). Currently, NFS Heat is its main competitor, but it’s an older production that has surprisingly been more successful. This niche is now being filled by indie and mobile games, many of which are making their way onto the scene. One such game is CarX Street, which recently became available on personal computers, but it’s not perfect as current reviews on Steam classify its reception as “Mixed” (with 55% positive reviews). The difficulty in earning money and XP may be one reason for this less than ideal response, and it seems that the lack of microtransactions might be contributing to this issue. However, contrary to what you might expect, the absence of microtransactions isn’t necessarily a bad thing – let me explain.

Why lack of microtransactions in CarX Street are making it hard to earn money and XP?

Not all gamers opt for highly realistic driving experiences in games like Forza Horizon or Gran Turismo; instead, some prefer the fast-paced action of racing titles from arcade productions such as Need for Speed. Unfortunately, there haven’t been many options available recently in this genre. In an attempt to fill this gap, CarX Technologies studio brought their game CarX Street to PC. However, players have found that the game is excessively grindy, making it difficult and tedious to earn money and experience points. Why is this happening?

As a gamer, let me clarify that the PC version of this game is a buy-to-play experience, priced at $20 on Steam, whereas you can play it for free on mobile devices. The intriguing part here is that the game was designed with microtransactions in mind, which make progress easier on mobile devices. However, these transactions are absent from the PC version.

In various discussions on Steam’s Community Hub and Reddit, some players have been criticized for exploiting the use of mods to amass money and XP excessively. While mods can enhance PC gaming by tailoring gameplay preferences, adjusting resource rates being one example, they should only be used in single-player mode. Regrettably, it appears that some individuals are misusing this feature even in multiplayer environments, which is unacceptable behavior.

It’s clear that the developers neglected the financial aspect of the ported version of CarX Street, which is disappointing given that some reviews suggest it has the potential to evoke the NFS Underground feeling we’ve been craving. For now, let’s join many others in expressing our concerns about this issue on the game’s Steam page, hoping that the creators will take notice and make necessary adjustments.
