As a film enthusiast, I can tell you that discussions about whether the brat summer has truly ended might go back and forth, but Charli XCX is moving forward – and not just musically! The hilarious gay college comedy “Overcompensating,” by Benito Skinner, was released on Amazon Prime Video on May 15, kick-starting Charli XCX’s acting journey post-“Brat.” In episode four of the series, Charli portrays a character that is both an adored idol and a crazed, coke-dependent lunatic. Interestingly enough, Charli has a close working relationship with Terrence O’Connor, Skinner’s partner, but she’s not just on the show because of that connection.
The popular musician is at present exploring a significant shift towards film and television acting, venturing into live-action roles for the first time with “Overcompensating.” Regrettably, her performances won’t be gracing Imax screens as previously speculated, as Emma Mackey was cast instead as the White Witch in Greta Gerwig’s Narnia adaptations. In the meantime, Charli XCX has seven upcoming film projects lined up, details of which are provided below.
Here’s a breakdown of all acting projects that Charli XCX is involved with and what we currently know about them:
1. “Overcompensating” – Her debut live-action role
2. (Untitled) Greta Gerwig Project – Reportedly cast as the White Witch, but Emma Mackey landed the part in the Narnia adaptations
3. Unnamed Netflix project
4. Unnamed Amazon Studios project
5. Unnamed A24 film
6. “Freaky” – A horror-comedy film opposite Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton, set for release on November 13, 2020
7. “The Nowhere Inn” – A mockumentary co-starring St. Vincent, with a TBA release date

Aidan Zamiri, who has directed Charli’s music videos for “Guess” and “360”, is directing this film, marking his first venture into feature films. This project is being produced by A24, and it’s the first production under Charli’s new banner Studio365.
