Italian Producer Andrea Iervolino Says He’s Working With Trump ‘Special Ambassador’ Mel Gibson on U.S.-Italy Co-Production Treaty Amid Tariff Threats

Andre Iervolino, an Italian film producer known as “Modì”, has put forth a proposal for a collaborative film production agreement between the United States and Italy. This proposal reportedly has the approval of Mel Gibson, who serves as one of President Donald Trump’s representatives in Hollywood.

The proposed agreement, with its specifics yet undefined, would enable Italian film producers to collaborate with their American counterparts on international film projects, thereby expanding market opportunities; and it would provide the U.S. with a chance to encourage foreign investments, aligning with President Trump’s objectives, as stated by Iervolino in a press release.

Iervolino referred to the proposal as an “initial endeavor,” suggesting the creation of similar agreements with the United States and all other nations globally.

As a follower, I acknowledge that the American entertainment industry has been unquestionably dominant on a global scale, serving as the primary benchmark and rule-setter for the industry. Yet, numerous countries have implemented incentive programs to lure foreign productions and have entered into bilateral agreements with multiple nations – except for the United States. This omission has left a significant cultural gap unaddressed. Therefore, it’s crucial to forge an agreement beneficial to both the U.S. and the rest of the world. Mel Gibson and I are actively working towards this goal, drawing inspiration from our initial agreement with Italy as a blueprint for global collaboration in the entertainment industry.

A spokesperson for Gibson, as mentioned by Iervolino without direct quotation, didn’t provide an immediate response when approached for a comment.

It’s anticipated that Gibson will kick off the filming of “The Resurrection of the Christ,” the follow-up to “The Passion of the Christ, ” at Rome’s Cinecittà Studios in September.
