Over the last few weeks, several older games have become available on Steam again. Following the return of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, another classic is coming soon: Scarface: The World is Yours. EC Digital is working on a new release of the game.
- Unfortunately, we don’t know yet when the game will be available for sale on Steam, but the publisher assures us that we won’t have to wait long. However, the title can already be purchased in the Epic Games Store for $29.99. This release is the result of an error by EC Digital, which didn’t plan for such an early launch of the game. Therefore, the company is now working to get the game on Steam as soon as possible.
- The title offers AI-enhanced visual improvements as a free DLC. This is optional, so purists don’t have to use it.
- Judging by the screenshots on Steam, it looks like the publisher made sure the game runs well on modern rigs. These images show the game running in a 1920×1080 widescreen resolution, an option not offered by the original 2006 release (although fans found their own solution). This is good news, as Ubisoft didn’t bother with such an update in the recent re-release of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow.
The game is already available in the Epic Games Store and is expected to be on Steam soon.
Re-release raises some concerns
While fans are excited about the re-release of Scarface: The World is Yours, there’s a bit of a disappointing situation. It appears the publisher updated the game using improvements created by fans through mods called SilentPatch and Fusion Fix, without giving any credit or reaching out to the mod creators. Though not legally required, as the mods are open source, it’s unfortunate they weren’t acknowledged.
Silent, one of the people who worked on these changes, also noted that Universal Studios previously blocked a re-release of the game. This has led to questions about whether EC Digital obtained all the proper permissions before putting the game on sale. It’s possible they only acquired the rights to the game itself, not the associated brand, which originated with a movie. Silent plans to look into this further, so we’ll see what happens.
