It May Be A Bad Idea To Update Your Xbox Controller Right Now

This week isn’t going smoothly for Microsoft regarding its Xbox updates. Not long after the most recent Xbox Insider update apparently restored consoles to their original factory settings, Microsoft has admitted that the fresh firmware for Xbox wireless controllers is causing trouble with Bluetooth pairing and overall functionality.

According to recent information posted on the Xbox support site, Microsoft has identified an issue where the Xbox wireless controllers’ firmware update might be causing connectivity problems with some older non-Xbox devices. If you’re experiencing Bluetooth connection issues with your controller, Microsoft advises rolling back the controller’s firmware to a previous version. Meanwhile, Xbox Support is actively working on finding a more lasting solution.

We’ve identified a problem with the Xbox Wireless Controller’s firmware version 5.23.5.0, and our technical teams are currently working diligently to find a resolution. In the interim, players can revert their controller’s firmware by following the instructions available on Xbox Support.

Despite being somewhat bothersome, the problem at hand seems insignificant next to the problems caused by the Xbox Insider update. Users have complained that instead of deleting games on their consoles as intended, the update left everything else in a state where it needed to be restarted from the beginning. Ironically, this update was designed to address minor concerns about how players view their Xbox profiles; however, wiping out those profiles entirely appears to have been an unforeseen outcome.

Players outside the Xbox Insider program need not worry about that issue, as it primarily affects members of this program. Those who are part of the program have the option to exit the preview. Since the Xbox Insider is still in its test stage, it’s possible that the final version may not present the same problems, but for now, it’s undergoing development and testing.
