Absolutely, Jeff! The Bear Season 4 is now available on Hulu, offering another thrilling emotional ride that ties up well as a potential series finale. However, it doesn’t rule out the possibility of Season 5.
Similar to the way Carmy and Syd struggle to keep their restaurant afloat and maintain their business relationship, The Bear has experienced both successes and challenges. However, Season 3 received some negative feedback due to a perceived lack of forward momentum in the storyline and its open-ended conclusion.
However, the Hulu show didn’t lack credit; rather, it was character-driven, offering ample room for viewers to delve into the emotional landscapes of its characters in the third chapter.
In Season 4, we delve deeper into the repercussions of the appraisal, explore whether Syd might depart or Carmy could find tranquility. These events lead to a seemingly decisive ending, which begs the question: What lies ahead for The Bear in future seasons?
Is The Bear Season 4 also the last?
As of now, it hasn’t been officially decided if The Bear Season 4 will be the final one. This choice hinges on the availability of creator Christopher Storer and the team, along with the actors’ schedules and viewership numbers.
Noteworthy to mention, TV analysts Andy Greenwald and Chris Ryan expressed on their latest The Watch podcast episode that it was initially assumed Chapter 4 would be the finale – however, things have changed now.
According to Greenwalf, it was originally intended or expected that this fourth season would be referred to as the finale. However, there appears to be a lack of such labeling.
Ryan notes, “Given our understanding that the storyline was initially planned as a three-season arc but extended to four, with this being the finale, there’s been no indication of this in any written material thus far.
To assess the development of The Bear, it can be challenging to make accurate predictions. As per FX CEO John Landgraf’s statement last year, Storer is focused on a season-by-season approach, which allows the narrative to unfold naturally over time.
At lunch, Nick Grad, along with me, had a chat with Chris Storer and his partner, Josh Senior, as he elaborated.
We mentioned, “You’ve reached a stage where we can extend your series for multiple seasons if desired. This could benefit you since your actors have become movie stars, and they might want to pursue other projects. You can then decide on the production schedule and when to air each episode.
Initially, they responded, “No, we can’t operate like that. We prefer to work on a single season basis.” Afterwards, they began working and later contacted us saying, “We believe there are actually two seasons here. Can you adjust the one-season order to a two-season order instead?
In simpler terms, Landgraf explained that there are numerous reasons why The Bear is excellent, but one key aspect is the connection between the creator, author, and the characters. He often found himself stuck in various situations throughout his life, which inspired him to create a season centered around being stuck, specifically referring to the third chapter.
The fourth season might reasonably tie up loose ends for the series’ characters. Should Storer decide to carry on the narrative, it would likely take a new direction compared to previous seasons.
During an independent conversation with Variety, Landgraf was inquired if Season 4 might be the final one. However, he stated that they truly haven’t decided yet. Such choices are mainly based on creative considerations.
In essence, the creative choice of making “Rez Dogs” a three-season series was Sterlin Harjo’s call. As for “The Bear,” the decision on whether there are additional stories to be told lies with Chris [Storer].
As a devoted fan, I’m yearning for him to unfold even more captivating tales beyond this current season. However, I wouldn’t insist on numerous seasons at the cost of quality. If we were to get a phenomenal season or perhaps three decent ones, I’d still opt for one masterpiece. The creative process should always guide us in this journey.
The one reason Season 5 could be harder
If The Bear is granted a fifth season, one aspect that could prove challenging this time is assembling the cast. As Landgraf mentioned, “We now have actors who have become movie stars.
With series such as Euphoria and Stranger Things, a common pattern emerges – after appearing in the show, the actors often secure significant roles elsewhere, causing schedule conflicts because they’re in high demand.
In upcoming projects, actor Jeremy Allen White has been cast as Bruce Springsteen in a biographical film, he’s also appearing in “The Mandalorian” and Grogu in the new Star Wars movie, and there are whispers that he might be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Ayo Edebiri manages several assignments concurrently, such as Ella McCay and Prodigies, while Ebon Moss-Bachrach is stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, with further appearances planned in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.
This series poses a challenge due to its annual release pattern for new seasons. As of now, it’s uncertain if this trend will continue, but in the meantime, we find ourselves in a situation where patience is key. And yes, don’t forget to catch up with Season 4, currently streaming on Hulu.
Additionally, you might want to explore other shows airing this month if you enjoy “The Bear”, Carmy’s “must-haves”, and are always on the lookout for fresh TV series streaming.
