Is Sentry the Ultimate Avenger or Just Another Superhero?

In a fresh sneak peek for the Thunderbolts film, it’s been suggested that The Sentry possesses strength that outmatches the combined might of every single Avenger.

In theory, it appears as if you’re engaging in typical grandstanding characteristic of a supervillain, similar to how the Atomic Skull might bluster before being defeated by Black Orchid and Mr. Elastic (Elongated Man).

However, when Valentina Allegra de Fontaine suggests that Sentry will soon be recognized as “Earth’s greatest hero,” her statement appears to hold truth. In previews of the forthcoming Marvel film, Sentry is depicted soaring through the skies, reducing people to powder with mental blasts, and causing destruction in New York City.

It’s undeniable that Sentry, also known as Bob, possesses great strength. However, is his power equal to that of the Avengers united? Let’s delve into it…

What are The Sentry’s powers?

Since we haven’t encountered Thunderbolts in reality, we’ll be using their comic book counterparts as our point of reference. In the Marvel comics, Bob exhibits characteristics similar to Superman, but with his abilities amplified significantly. He possesses the ability to fly, is invincible, moves at incredible speeds, and boasts superhuman strength – all the essentials you’d expect from a powerful character like him.

Indeed, what truly sets Bob apart is his extraordinary ability, known as “molecularkinesis,” which grants him the power to manipulate molecules directly. In other words, while Superman boasts speed faster than a bullet, strength beyond a locomotive, and the ability to leap over skyscrapers in a single bound, Sentry has the unique capacity to alter reality itself. He can effectively disintegrate bullets, reduce trains to atoms, and shrink buildings down to microscopic levels.

Essentially, I’m implying that Sentry holds a divine-like status, but he’s not invincible. You notice that poor Bob struggles with inner demons – quite figuratively speaking in his case – which affects his ability to fully utilize his powers. So, is Valentina correct? We plan to pit him against the original Avengers and observe their interaction with Sentry.

Does Hawkeye beat The Sentry?

I’m afraid I can’t help you any further with that question. It seems to me that comparing a man with the ability to use a bow and arrow to one who possesses the power of a million exploding suns is an impossible task, even for someone in perfect health. If you need this explained, it might be best to consult a doctor.

Winner: The Sentry (obviously)

Does Black Widow beat The Sentry?

It’s common knowledge that Nat is quite formidable, able to hold her own against some powerful adversaries. On a good day, she might challenge characters such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Black Panther without appearing out of depth. However, when it comes to Bob, I can’t imagine what options Nat would have. Shocking him? Kicking him? Hiding from him? I don’t think Nat has any tools in her arsenal that would be effective against someone like Bob.

Winner: The Sentry (Sadly)

Does Captain America beat The Sentry?

Similar to Black Widow, Captain America consistently performs beyond his expected capabilities in many battles, as shown when he blocked Thanos’s punch and even defeated Spider-Man during the Civil War. However, Sentry is not merely a formidable opponent; he transcends weight classes with a single thought.

Absolutely, it’s unlikely that Captain America from the Marvel Cinematic Universe could hold his own against Bob, given his extraordinary strength and ability to manipulate molecules. However, compared to Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) and Clint Barton (Hawkeye), Steve Rogers might have a better chance due to his strategic mind. Although physical attacks would likely be ineffective against Bob, there’s a possibility that Steve could deliver some psychological blows.

Winner: The Sentry (He can do this all day)

Does Iron Man beat The Sentry?

In a head-to-head matchup, it’s plausible to consider that Tony Stark, with his most advanced armor, could hold his own against the powerful Sentry. The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version of Tony has managed to knock out the Hulk, catch Thor off guard, and even make Thanos bleed – an accomplishment rarely achieved by any character. However, it’s important to remember that despite his impressive feats, Tony Stark is still just a man in a suit, and if his armor were removed (which Sentry could do with a thought), he would be vulnerable and easily defeated like a flimsy napkin in a high-class restaurant. Even without using his molecular manipulation, Sentry possesses the ability to render Tony nearly powerless, making him more of a costly target for Sentry than a formidable opponent.

Winner: The Sentry (sorry, Tony, we love you 3,000)

Does Thor beat The Sentry?

Absolutely! While it’s not definitive, it’s encouraging to see someone challenging Bob. This contest might be closer than expected. In theory, Bob has the ability to alter reality, but when under stress, he may find it difficult to manage his powers effectively. I have a strong feeling that Sentry would feel quite tense facing an opponent who matches him physically.

To put it simply, it seems like a tight match, with both Thor and Bob having a good chance at victory. If Thor wields Mjolnir, Bob might lose, but if Thor is in his prime, armed with Stormbreaker (the same determination that defeated Thanos wielding the Infinity Gauntlet), then Thor could emerge victorious.

Winner: Draw (You should have gone for the head)

Does Hulk beat The Sentry?

In a hypothetical scenario, the Sentry could easily fold the MCU’s Hulk, much like one might fold a green beach towel. However, things aren’t as straightforward as they seem. Just as I can envision a confrontation between Thor and the Hulk causing distress to Odin’s son, I can imagine a similar struggle between Sentry and Hulk, causing Bob (the character controlling Sentry) considerable worry.

If we assume that this fight would exhaust Sentry’s powers, it’s possible that Smart Hulk could land some significant blows before eventually being defeated by Marvel’s golden hero.

If we saw the Hulk on Sakaar, I’d have to side with him in a fight against a flustered Bob. Despite his usual grumpiness, this version of the green giant displayed strength comparable to Thor and a level of strategy that could give him an advantage in combat. It would be a tight call, but if I were Nick Fury needing to subdue The Sentry, I’d likely send in Hulk.

Winner: The Hulk (puny God)

Verdict

Is Sentry more powerful than all of The Avengers together? Yes, but in a hypothetical scenario where the original six Avengers teamed up against him, I don’t think Bob would emerge victorious. Remember, we learned from the Doomsday cast reveal that the Thunderbolts will either defeat or subdue Sentry, so it seems the Avengers should be able to handle him. Additionally, Doctor Strange or Captain Marvel might even be capable of defeating him single-handedly, I’m afraid for Valentina in this case.
