In contrast to what the Netflix series suggests, the actual location named Ransom Canyon, Texas, is distinct from the fictional town portrayed in the show. Consequently, if you developed an affection for the Ransom Canyon depicted on screen, it might be challenging to find its real-world counterpart.
The filming for the Netflix series was actually carried out in various locations across New Mexico, with specific sites being Las Vegas, Santa Fe, and Albuquerque. Contrary to initial assumptions based on the series’ setting, it wasn’t filmed in Ransom Canyon or Texas.
The majority of scenes from “Ransom Canyon” were filmed directly in Albuquerque, stirring up a great deal of feelings for Minka Kelly, the actress portraying a key character, according to her own account shared with Tudum.
In Albuquerque, I’ve never before needed to use a gun until this particular TV series. I felt apprehensive about returning because my memories of the city from my childhood aren’t particularly fond. Returning under these circumstances helped dispel my fears, like banishing a childhood bogeyman. There were certain locations from my youth that struck me as I visited them, thinking, ‘If the old Minka had seen me come back here to film this show, they wouldn’t have believed it.’ It was truly breathtaking and there’s a sense of the divine about it.
