Greetings, mountain climbers! You’ve come quite a distance, so why not pause by the warm campfire? Indulge in this delightful marshmallow, take a refreshing drink of water, and unwind for a moment. Ready to continue? Excellent! Then let’s press onward… *Application name: PEAK.exe*
Is your journey with Peak similar to this? You’re not alone – many players who advance beyond the first campfire into the tropics often face such situations. But don’t worry, this doesn’t have to stop you from reaching the peak. Here, we provide a temporary solution, along with the latest update from the developers regarding this issue.
Workaround for first camp crash in Peak
It’s no wonder Peak is becoming popular. Everyone is familiar with Jusant having a dedicated fanbase, but Cairn isn’t far behind with its comparable gameplay concept of mountaineering. While Peak emphasizes cooperative play that many enjoy, it unfortunately suffers from consistent crashes upon reaching the first camp and venturing into the tropics. However, don’t lose heart as a straightforward solution is available.
It seems like my gaming experience isn’t quite what it should be because, for some reason, the game doesn’t seem to play nice with the Vulkan API. Typically, I can switch to DirectX12 when launching the game, but this time it doesn’t seem to do the trick. Even after selecting DX12, Peak keeps pushing Vulkan on me. To bypass this issue, in the game’s properties (you can find these by right-clicking the game in your Steam Library), you should add a straightforward command line that will make the game use DirectX12 instead:
It’s been noticed that Peak often crashes when framerates are extremely high and unlimited. To avoid this, it’s a smart move to activate vsync, which synchronizes the frames produced by the game with your monitor’s refresh rate. This, along with the solution mentioned earlier, should help you progress past the first campfire in the tropics. If that doesn’t work, a potential solution is to… Look down as you enter the tropics area. Though it might sound strange, this seems to have helped some players dealing with this problem. Also, don’t forget to keep your drivers updated, as this can also improve performance.
The team at Landcrab Studio is not burying their heads in the sand; they’re openly working on finding a lasting solution for this issue. Here’s hoping they find a resolution quickly. If you want to keep tabs on this situation, as well as progress in the game’s development, feel free to join the official Discord server for updates.
Although Peak isn’t currently in Early Access, it still encounters some typical growing pains. However, the developers appear to be aware of their priorities and despite pressure to release this fantastic game on consoles, they are focusing on perfecting its performance on the primary platform, PC, first. Enjoy!
