Is Mission: Impossible’s Final Reckoning Just a Dream? Shocking Theory Revealed!

Mission: Impossible – The Last Stand is currently playing in theaters, however, we’ve spotted a plot detail that might unintentionally reveal the ending for both this film and the series as a whole.

According to persistent gossip and the movie’s name, The Final Reckoning is supposedly the conclusion of the Mission: Impossible series. If this isn’t accurate, then it seems likely that this will be the final appearance of Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt in these films.

However, the most renowned movie star globally is concluding his career in a spectacular manner. In our review of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, we stated that “Cruise has elevated the standards for action, emotion, and flawless narrative, ensuring no fan of the Mission: Impossible series will leave feeling disappointed.

Despite the emotional conclusion of the series, a detail noticed in the film earlier might alter our perspective on events following it. (Major spoilers ahead…)

How The Entity wins at the end of Mission: Impossible 8

In Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Ethan Hunt seems to have vanquished The Entity, yet the ending leaves an impression of being overly tidy, leading one to ponder if perhaps it was The Entity’s artificial intelligence that ultimately held the advantage in their conflict.

At the end of the film, Ethan triumphantly battles in an aerial spectacle before his parachute catches fire during descent. In mid-air, he combines the Podkova with the Poison Pill, Grace releases the 5D drive at a crucial moment, and there’s an explosion – trapping The Entity.

After reconciling with Kittridge and Briggs, I find myself strolling towards the iconic Trafalgar Square. Here, I share a heartfelt moment with Grace, Paris, Degas, and Benji as the credits begin to roll. The looming threat of nuclear war miraculously fades away, leaving our world safe once more.

Could it be possible that everything we saw in the film was merely a fabrication? Characters repeatedly referred to their existence within The Entity’s “constructed reality.” Early on in the storyline, Ethan enters the AI’s pod, puts on the Entity’s headset, and witnesses a prophecy of what would transpire.

Could it be possible that instead of the vision ending, the rest of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning exists as a different reality being played out within Ethan Hunt’s mind, as projected by The Entity?

Ethan Hunt’s new reality is our Final Reckoning

Immediately upon stepping into the pod, Ethan is pulled aside by his companions, who he queries, “Is this genuine?” as he feels them to confirm their presence. The group insists that Hunt has returned to reality, but all we have are their statements, implying that everything following could be a figment of Ethan Hunt’s imagination; a delusion designed to distract him while The Entity carries out its destructive acts.

In order to avoid Ethan suspecting he’s in a simulated environment, the story needed to have imperfections. To achieve this credibility, The Entity introduces a touch of sadness by having someone dear to Ethan pass away. Interestingly, during Ethan’s impossible missions, it’s always someone close to him who meets an untimely end. In this instance, unfortunate Luther appears to be the victim.

In a poignant goodbye, the Entity pens a heartfelt letter, and Luther departs with a valiant act that stirs Hunt’s spirit, urging him forward in his mission to triumph. However, the demise could also be fabricated to ensure Ethan remains convinced of the authenticity of his experiences.

As the movie ends with Ethan flashing a smile at his team before venturing into the London night, a more chilling reality might unfold – perhaps us, the fans, witnessing them frantically attempting to revive Hunt from his orchestrated dream, while The Entity triumphs and nuclear explosions rock the city in the background.
