Is Capcom’s New RE4 Video Teasing Resident Evil 9?

Previously this year, Capcom shared that the Resident Evil 4 remake, set for release in 2023, had already sold 9 million copies by the end of 2024. Now, Capcom has unveiled a fresh video to commemorate the game surpassing the 10 million mark. However, some enthusiasts are speculating whether the video might also contain a veiled hint about Resident Evil 9.

Dear Agents,

We have put together a commemorative video filled with appreciation for each one of you. We kindly invite you to watch it with the sound on for an enhanced experience.

Best Regards,
RE4 Development Team

The video reuses some clips from the Resident Evil 4 remake, such as the amusing detail where villagers wear party hats while fleeing Leon. However, as pointed out by Insider Gaming, the gratitude messages from Capcom at the end of the video appear to be a sideways Roman numeral IX.

I know what you did here. ” IX ” 👀

It’s been affirmed by Capcom that a fresh installment of the Resident Evil series is underway, though they haven’t officially labeled it as Resident Evil 9 yet. Earlier speculation also hinted that this new game, if indeed RE9, might venture into open-world gaming, which would mark a novelty for the franchise.

Furthermore, Capcom has expressed plans to create updated versions of more Resident Evil games following the success of their remakes on RE2, RE3, and RE4. Yet, it remains undecided which game will be remade next.

The popular franchise is set to make its grand return to the big screen with an upcoming Resident Evil movie directed by Zach Cregger, known for his work on “Barbarian”. This new movie is scheduled for release on September 18, 2026.
