As a long-time fan of Middle-earth and its tales, I must say that the penultimate episode of Rings of Power Season 2 has left me with a mix of anticipation and dread for the finale. The siege on Eregion by Adar and his forces is a grim reminder of the looming darkness that threatens our beloved heroes.
In simpler terms, the seventh episode of The Rings of Power Season 2 concludes with a grim outlook for Eregion and our protagonists. Is Arondir deceased? The answer remains uncertain, while Celebrimbor’s fate is left hanging, and there are whispers about whether the Balrog will make its appearance in Khazad-dûm.
In the seventh episode of Season 2, war descends upon Middle-earth as Adar lays siege to the Elven city of Eregion. His single objective is the annihilation of Sauron, regardless of the cost.
Involving Damrod, the hulking hill-troll, who demonstrates a knack for obliterating Uruks equal in number to Elves during battles and employing a ramming device to bring down the city’s fortifications, while also annihilating the troops of Elrond and Gil-galad.
In simpler terms, we’re approaching the second-to-last episode of Rings of Power Season 2, and it seems the ending won’t be full of hope. Brace yourself for a heartfelt farewell to one character – I’ll leave the rest (potential spoilers) for another discussion.
Is Arondir dead?
In the final scenes of Rings of Power Season 2 Episode 7, Adar stabs Arondir, but it seems extremely improbable that he’s met his end.
Towards the end of the episode, as the sun begins to peek over the mountains, Elrond eagerly anticipates the arrival of Durin and his Dwarven troops. However, they fail to materialize (a topic discussed further), resulting in Elrond, Gil-galad, Arondir, and the remaining Elves having to confront Adar and his Uruk forces instead.
Overall, things aren’t going smoothly. Mostly, it’s a bloodbath (Gil-galad puts up a valiant fight with the aid of Aeglos), and Adar somehow acquires Galadriel’s Elven ring from Elrond.
In a long-awaited confrontation, Arondir, sworn to avenge Bronwyn’s death by taking down Adar, finally met him, only for Adar to inflict a wound upon Arondir’s abdomen and leave him lying on the ground.
As Adar departs, I’m anything but stationary. I’m in constant motion, which means I’ll be around for another episode, fingers crossed, ready to take down targets with my trusty bow and arrows.
What happens to Celebrimbor in the book?
As a devoted fan, I recall from “The Lord of the Rings” series, Celebrimbor, a key figure, met his untimely end at the hands of Sauron during Eregion’s downfall. However, there remains a question mark over whether he’ll breathe his last in the climactic finale yet to unfold.
Should you be curious about the gruesome particulars, Sauron subjects him to excruciating torment, pierces him with numerous arrows, suspends him from a post, and uses him as a display, much like a banner.
During a chat with Nerdist, actor Charles Edwards (portraying Celebriimbor) hinted: “You simply follow the narrative’s lead and respond appropriately.
We found tremendous delight in the fact that we were able to film all our scenes in Season 2 sequentially. Charlie Vickers and I spent weeks on end in the forge, day after day, narrating the story in a chronological manner, which is quite rare. It was incredibly rewarding work for us both.
Regarding the outcome of his character, he remained silent but expressed: Given how swift and intense the events unfold in ours, he’s always finding himself in a predicament. Essentially, he’s continually ensnared by Annatar, leaving him no choice but to navigate each situation as it arises.
From my perspective as a fervent admirer, the tragic aspect of his story becomes clearer with time, yet I’ve refrained from labeling him as a tragic hero prematurely. Fingers crossed, his narrative may naturally evolve into one that resonates deeply with this tragic hero trope.
Where’s the Balrog?
It’s likely that we won’t encounter the Balrog until the end of Rings of Power Season 2, given its appearance in the trailer.
Towards the conclusion of Season 1, it was made official – a Balrog had been hiding deep within Khazad-dûm, the very same one Gandalf battled in The Fellowship of the Ring. It’s clear that if we Dwarves continue mining, our path is bound to cross with its fury at some point.
Since I found this enchanted ring, I can’t seem to resist the urge to grow my gaming guild, disregarding the price we might end up paying for this newfound prosperity.
In Episode 7, it’s disclosed that the king is mercilessly destroying any Dwarf who opposes him, leading to a dramatic confrontation involving a conflict between a father and son… and a Balrog.
Will Galadriel fight Sauron in the finale?
Judging by the trailer, it seems that Galadriel is set to meet with Sauron again in the final episode of The Rings of Power’s second season.
Galadriel unknowingly fell for a deceptive charade in the initial season. She was deceived by a charming man who spun an intriguing narrative. This individual, with false humility, embraced his perceived fate as the ruler of the Southern lands, leveraging the faith of a powerful Elf to gain favor and orchestrate his scheme for the alleged refinement of Middle-earth.
At the outset of the fresh season, many, including Elrond, are enraged at her, as they believe she facilitated his comeback due to the appeal of what he presented. However, she denies this notion… until Episode 7, when she consoles Celebrimbor in Eregion.
In him, there was a piece that recognized, another that perceived… yet craved what he presented. Consequently, he chose to ignore his own perceptions of who he was dealing with,” he admits, mirroring Galadriel’s sentiment. In other words, both of them allowed their desires to cloud their judgement and overlooked the true nature of the person they were interacting with.
Celebrimbor bestows upon her the nine rings and departs, leaving her to confront Sauron independently (though he takes a handful of soldiers with him, they fall swiftly). Their paths will cross once more before the series finale, but their reunion won’t involve any warm greetings or affectionate gestures.
