IO Interactive, Dev of Hitman, Ends Partnership with Conor McGregor After Conviction

As a long-time gamer and connoisseur of video games, I can’t help but applaud IO Interactive for taking a firm stand against injustice. The removal of Conor McGregor from Hitman 3 is a bold move that sends a powerful message to the gaming community and beyond. While I was looking forward to taking down “The Disruptor,” I’m more than happy to support this decision.

The creators of Hitman 3 have ended their partnership with Conor McGregor, and eliminated all downloadable content associated with him. Following the court ruling on rape allegations against the MMA fighter, IO Interactive studio released a statement about Conor McGregor.

In a court case on November 22, a woman who alleged that McGregor had raped her in 2018 was victorious. As a result of the decision, McGregor is required to pay this woman approximately 250,000 euros as compensation (as reported by Associated Press).

The court’s verdict left the IO Interactive team in a challenging position, mainly because of the “Elusive Targets” series – a collection of tough missions introduced since the debut of Hitman. In these missions, gamers are tasked with completing contracts to kill elusive targets, who are exceptionally hard to catch. Notably, popular actors and other celebrities like Conor McGregor often portray these characters.

In the ninth installment of “The Elusive Target” series, titled “The Disruptor“, which was launched in late June 2024, the MMA fighter made an appearance. But due to the resolution of a court case, IO Interactive revealed that they would promptly end their collaboration with McGregor and expunge all content pertaining to him from their game titles.

It appears that “The Disruptor” game has been taken off the shelves on the Epic Games Store, PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, and Steam. Many of the user reviews on Steam seem to focus on the recent legal issues involving the MMA fighter, which may have contributed to its removal from these platforms.
