‘Invincible’ Video Game Set as Skybound Launches First In-House Game Studio, Quarter Up

The renowned “Invincible” studio, Skybound Entertainment, has established its inaugural internal game development studio, christened as Quarter Up.

The inaugural match for our fresh division is the newly unveiled 3v3 tag fighting game titled “Invincible VS”. This game takes place in the universe of Amazon Prime Video’s acclaimed adult animated superhero series, which was developed from the comic books authored by Robert Kirkman under Skybound.

The fierce, high-stakes 3v3 tag game called ‘Invincible VS’ offers players the chance to embody their favorite superheroes from the ‘Invincible’ universe in a gruesome intergalactic battle.” In this game, you’ll encounter popular characters such as Mark Grayson (Invincible), Thula, Atom Eve, and Bulletproof, among others. The unique single-player narrative is crafted by the talented team behind Amazon’s ‘Invincible’ television series.

The game, initially hinted at during the Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday prior to Skybound’s Quarter Up unveiling on Monday, is planned for release in the year 2026.

Chris Paulson from Skybound Games expressed that our team is essentially a collective of enthusiasts in the fighting-game realm, developing games catering to this specific community. Our objective is to create a game that resonates with the audience’s preferences, and it doesn’t necessarily have to be a large-scale production costing $100. Instead, we focus on creating something more concentrated. We don’t worry about categorizing it as Double A or Triple A; our primary concern is making a game for our intended audience, and we play it with the people who will become fans.

Based in Los Angeles, Quarter Up comprises over 40 developers who have previously worked for gaming studios such as Activision Blizzard, Amazon Game Studios, Double Helix Games, Riot Games, Naughty Dog, Netflix and others. Their goal is to revolutionize the fighting game genre by focusing on combat, aesthetics, and enthusiasm. They’ve been tight-lipped about any other projects they might be working on aside from “Invincible VS.

At the moment, our attention is solely on this game, ‘Invincible VS’. As Mike Willette, the producer, shared with EbMaster, we aim to astound players. Our goal is to captivate them with the characters and the world of ‘Invincible’, a universe brimming with intricate lore and badassery that we can’t wait to share with everyone.

However, as Quarter Up continues developing additional games for Skybound, Willette pointed out that having an internal game studio streamlines the typical development challenges he usually encounters.

He found it incredible, from his developer point of view, that he could utilize such a wealth of resources. Previously, on other projects, he had to plead, borrow, or even resort to underhanded methods just to discover what something was and whether he could access it. Here, however, there are no obstacles. We have a vast archive of comic materials dating back for decades, access to the show, and the creative team at our disposal. From our perspective as developers, we couldn’t ask for anything more suitable.
