Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet aims for deeper RPG focus than usual Naughty Dog games

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet,” hailing from the creative minds at Naughty Dog (known for numerous successful games), remains a mystery with limited information revealed. Announced during The Game Awards last December, we’ve gleaned some details from the trailer and a few morsels of info directly from the developers. The storyline for Intergalactic has been hinted at, along with the understanding that themes of solitude and religious matters will play significant roles within the game.

There’s very little information available regarding the gameplay mechanics of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, except that it seems to offer a degree of freedom reminiscent of Elden Ring. However, a recent fan discovery on Reddit hints that this game might not follow the traditional action game format like the Uncharted series.

According to a past game developer’s profile, the impending project features a “Role-Playing Game (RPG) progression system.” Kristina Gu, who was an assistant technical designer at Naughty Dog until February last year, contributed to level scripts and specific gameplay systems for The Last of Us: Part II Remastered, as well as some aspects of the abandoned The Last of Us: Factions project.

In the game Intergalactic, it’s uncertain how the “RPG progression system” will shape up, but given Gu’s past work, we might expect it to resemble the mechanics found in the The Last of Us series. It seems reasonable that players could customize or enhance their weapons, and there’s a good chance Naughty Dog will incorporate a character advancement system as well.

It’s currently undisclosed when we can expect the game “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet,” but there are rumors that it won’t be before 2026. Initially, it will only be available for play on the PlayStation 5 console.
