Merlin, a pet pig, is now the most popular pig on Instagram! He’s gained over 1.1 million followers and even earned a Guinness World Record for his popularity.
This animal became incredibly popular over the past four years through videos demonstrating his ability to seemingly “talk” with sound buttons, follow instructions, and display a surprisingly lively personality.
Mina Alali taught her dog, Merlin, to use buttons with his nose to communicate. He can press buttons to say things like “yes,” “no,” “I’m mad,” and even ask for food.
Funny videos have made Merlin a popular figure on social media, and people love to watch and interact with what he does every day.
Merlin the Pig breaks record for most followers
Mina told Guinness World Records that the pig is now famous enough that people recognize him when he’s out in public.
She explained that he’s now constantly recognized when they go out. She and her fiancé even joke that being with him is like walking around with Brad Pitt.
Mina thinks Merlin the pig’s fame is changing how people see pigs and other farm animals, helping them be seen as companions instead of just livestock.

She expressed her pride in the large audience Merlin and she have built, believing her videos will bring more joy and happiness to viewers, and also help people see pigs in a new light – not just as farm animals, but as individuals.
I think the world would be improved if we showed the same kindness to all animals that we usually reserve for pets like dogs and cats.
Merlin the cat hasn’t been the only animal gaining attention online recently. In Japan, a little monkey named Punch has also become incredibly popular, and people are touched by his story.
