A social media personality could potentially be penalized financially, as they published an unfavorable evaluation about a product without first obtaining approval from its manufacturer.
On February 4, social media personality Liang Gexiaoduan sparked widespread attention by voicing her displeasure over a particular underwear item she bought from the well-known Chinese retailer Pangdonglai.
It’s reported that the influencer experienced an adverse reaction to some underwear, prompting her to seek medical attention at a local hospital. Furthermore, she mentioned that the item’s color changed after laundering and accused the company’s representatives of not offering adequate support regarding the apparent problem with their product.
Initially, I was grateful when Pangdonglai compensated me $70 and took care of my medical expenses. However, shockingly, they’ve now demanded that I repay a whopping 1 million yuan (approximately $137K) due to an alleged infringement on their brand through social media posts.
To ensure the underwear wasn’t defective, the company took the item off their store shelves and had it examined by three independent quality control agencies located in various regions.
After investigating, all three organizations reached a unanimous decision, stating that no issues were found with the undergarments. As a result, Pangdonglai decided to keep on marketing the product.

Additionally, the company conducted an in-house review to maintain a uniform and dependable level of customer service. Unfortunately, Pangdonglai discovered that their staff’s attention wasn’t quite up to par with expectations. However, the company chose to retrain their employees to enhance overall customer satisfaction instead.
Apart from this, Pangdonglai reached out to Funalai, the underwear manufacturer, and extended an apology over the possible financial repercussions caused by the influencer’s video. A comprehensive account of these findings is detailed in a 53-page report compiled by the company.
