Social media personality Brandi Botello is appealing to her followers for assistance, as authorities confiscated her pet spider monkey, named Jorgie Boy, after a car accident involving alcohol in Dallas, Texas.
In November 2024, Brandi Botello, who boasts a following of more than 43,000 on Instagram where she documents her life with her pet monkey, found herself involved in a car accident. This incident occurred when Brandi, who was intoxicated at the time, was unconscious in the passenger seat, with her spider monkey, Jorgie Boy, also present.
On Saturday, November 9th, as reported by the Dallas Police Department, an officer attended a scene involving a solo car crash. Subsequently, the driver was taken into custody for suspected drunken driving, according to their official announcement.
In their statement, the police did not name the driver; however, Botello asserted that she had been accused of DWI, yet she maintained that she wasn’t the person behind the wheel, as reported by NBC Dallas-Fort Worth.
According to her, the driver was a man she knew, who had been arrested for being excessively intoxicated in public. As Botello put it, “he was extremely drunk.

Instead, Botello stated that, although she was drunk at the time, she was unconscious in the front passenger seat with a nearly 3-year-old spider monkey when the police arrived. Nevertheless, she did acknowledge that she shifted into the driver’s seat following the initial collision.
Jorgie Boy was taken to a sanctuary
In the course of the event, authorities removed Jorgie Boy from Botello’s custody and transported him to a hospital. Afterward, he was transferred to the Irving Animal Control Department where he was diagnosed with rickets, a condition characterized as “a bone disease resulting from lack of proper nutrition.
Currently, he’s being tended to at an unnamed wildlife refuge located in Texas, as stated by the Dallas Police. It appears, however, that his return to Botello might no longer be possible.
According to The Dallas Morning News, the Funky Monkey Ranch stated that Jorgie Boy weighed only 6 pounds, which is significantly less than the average weight for a spider monkey. They additionally asserted that he had small bone fractures and abnormally high liver and pancreas enzyme levels.
According to The Morning News, the owner of the sanctuary stated that the monkey would not be handed back to its former owner.
In Texas, it’s possible to own certain exotic creatures like monkeys, but only with a permit. However, the city where Botello resides, Irving, specifically forbids keeping wild animals as pets.
