Influencer banned on TikTok for “dangerous” advice on how to make Americans ‘less obese’

As a gamer who has spent countless hours scrolling through social media platforms and following various influencers, I must say I find myself torn over the case of Liv Schmidt. On one hand, I appreciate her ability to motivate her followers towards healthier lifestyles by sharing her personal journey. However, on the other hand, her promotion of disordered eating and dangerous weight loss practices is concerning, especially considering the influence she holds.

Life and style social media personality Liv Schmidt was temporarily removed from TikTok due to violating their rules, however, her supporters are delighted as she has returned by making a new account on the platform.

On September 17th, social media influencer Liv Schmidt, aged 22, attempted to access her TikTok account only to find it blocked. The reason behind this blockage was a violation of TikTok’s set rules and guidelines by Liv.

Following the upload of numerous videos that emphasized ‘thinness,’ Schmidt ultimately got banned from TikTok due to the controversial nature of her “eating disorder” material.

As per the regulations, activities such as displaying or advocating for eating disorders or harmful weight loss practices, or providing a space for the sale or advertisement of weight loss or muscle-building products are considered prohibited.

Before her TikTok account was deactivated, Schmidt, with more than 670,000 followers, used to charge a monthly fee of $9.99 from subscribers for access to her health tips and advice.

Additionally, she shared workout videos with the aim of making exercise seem commonplace, all while reducing caloric intake by abstaining from meals.

In an interview following her ban, she shared that for her personally, reducing her diet by 300 calories felt much more manageable than spending that same energy on exercise, especially given the time constraints common among career-focused individuals.

Schmidt noted that being slim was more than a decision, it was a way of life for him. “Personally, I prefer to maintain a slim figure, and I see no issue with that preference.

As a dedicated gamer and follower, I was thrilled to learn that my favorite influencer managed to jump back onto the TikTok scene in no time flat! Just a few short days after her original account got disabled, she’s already reappeared with a fresh start – and what a comeback it’s been! With over 25K followers on her new account, there’s no stopping this powerhouse of creativity. The outpouring of support from the gaming community has been heartwarming, and I can’t wait to see what she’ll bring us next!

“GIRL, I panicked when you got banned. You keep me motivated. Never leave!” exclaimed a fan.

“A bunch of jealous girlies reporting you! I’m glad you are back,” said another.

A viewer expressed that Schmidt’s content played a significant role in their decision to adopt a healthier lifestyle and went as far as to call her an inspiration. They penned, “Ever since I started watching your videos, I’ve been practicing portion control without any strict dieting, also reducing my binge-eating. Ignore what others may say, you are undeniably my source of motivation.

Instead of Schmidt receiving criticism, it was for her statement in her TikTok bio expressing a desire to combat obesity, which read: “It’s not wrong to aspire to be thin. Saving America from obesity 1 person at a time.” After facing backlash, she removed this statement and replaced it with her YouTube handle instead.

Despite feeling inclined to delete her opinion, a fan agreed with her about too many Americans being obese. “Finally someone who normalizes being toned is healthy. America is overweight and people act like it’s healthy and normalize it,” commented the fan. Schmidt then responded, “Duhh.”

As a follower, I’m not alone in experiencing the ban of an influencer due to violating a platform’s rules lately – it seems Schmidt isn’t an exception.

Twitch sensation Amouranth faced a ban on YouTube in August, following concerns over the explicit nature of her ASMR content. This led to a restriction on her ability to post from this channel. Subsequently, even her primary YouTube channel was taken down.
