Indonesia’s Imajinari Unveils Film Slate at Hong Kong FilMart (EXCLUSIVE)

The Indonesian movie production company, Imaginari, is broadening its reach with a series of ambitious new ventures, building on the phenomenal success of their comedy film “Agak Laen.” This film, which has garnered 9.1 million cinema viewers, now holds the record as the highest-grossing Indonesian comedy ever made.

Established in 2021 by Ernest Prakasa and Dipa Andika, Imajinari is preparing for the release of “Tinggal Meninggal,” a dark comedy that’s currently in post-production and scheduled to debut on Aug. 7. Directed by Kristo Immanuel, this film will be followed by “Agak Laen 2,” the sequel to their highly successful comedy, due out on Nov. 5. Muhadkly Acho is set to return as both writer and director for this upcoming release.

Andika shared that our approach is all about creating unique narratives, and we’re committed to ensuring everything is well-prepared before we proceed. He emphasized that we prefer not to rush things if they’re not yet ready.” (spoken in a natural, easy-to-read manner)

The company is collaborating with Angin Segar Films to produce “Operasi Pesta Pora,” set for release in 2026. Edy Khemod will be the director, while Rino Sardjono will handle the screenplay.

In collaboration with Angin Segar Films, the company is preparing for a 2026 release of “Operasi Pesta Pora.” This project will see Edy Khemod at the helm as director and Rino Sardjono writing the script.

Imajinari’s dedication to unique storytelling, amidst an industry saturated with sequels, remakes, and horror films, has yielded significant praise from critics. Their 2023 black-and-white romantic comedy “Falling in Love Like in Movies” (international “Jatuh Cinta Seperti Di Film-Film”) made Indonesian film history at the Piala Citra awards, winning seven categories and sweeping all four acting awards, including the prestigious award for best movie.

Prakasa, our chief creative officer, stated that we aim to present something distinct to our viewers,” he said. “What truly matters is that it’s incredibly unique – it must carry a genuine and personal touch from its creator.

The company is also branching out by funding ventures outside the organization that align with their principles, such as “Sore” by Cerita Films under Yandy Laurens’ direction, “Rangga & Cinta”, a musical from Miles Films directed by seasoned director Riri Riza, and “Four Seasons in Java”, a drama for Forka Films helmed by Kamila Andini.

Presently, Prakasa is helming a Netflix original production named “Lost in the Limelight.” This film revolves around an actor who experiences a loss of acting skills following his immersion in stardom and fame. The humorously-toned project was completed in November for its release on the streaming service sometime during the last quarter of 2025.

Ever since its establishment, Imajinari has established a strong standing for producing high-quality films and ensuring that the work environment for their crews is fair and humane. As Prakasa put it, “It’s crucial for us to ensure that our crew members are working in a comfortable and suitable atmosphere because long hours have become a significant concern in our nation.

The first movie produced by the company, titled “Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap” or internationally known as “Missing Home,” directed by Bene Dion Rajagukguk, was selected to represent Indonesia at the Oscars in 2023. Moving forward, Imajinari plans to expand their reach into international markets by distributing regionally across Southeast Asia and possibly acquiring remake rights for their unique original narratives.

Andika and Prakasa pointed out piracy and a lack of skilled workers as the major hurdles for the Indonesian film industry, observing that its expansion has surpassed the nurturing of fresh talent. “What we really need is more renewal for the artists in this field,” Prakasa emphasized.
