Indie Animator Julian Glander’s ‘Boys Go to Jupiter’ With Voices by Julio Torres and Cole Escola Picked Up for Distribution by Cartuna and Irony Point

Cartuna and Irony Point have obtained the rights to distribute Julian Glander’s first feature film, “Boys Go to Jupiter,” across North America. This animated movie made its premiere at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival.

Cartuna and Irony Point are set to debut their film in cinemas starting on August 8th at New York City’s IFC Center. From there, it will make its premiere on August 15th at the Laemmle Glendale in Los Angeles. Following these initial showings, the film will be gradually released across the country.

Glennder’s “Boys Go to Jupiter” is characterized as a fantastical journey of self-discovery set in suburban Florida. This film chronicles the adventures of Billy 5000, a high school delivery driver, who finds himself entangled in an otherworldly enigma after an ordinary job results in his unexpected responsibility for a puzzling alien egg.

This ensemble features Janeane Garofalo, Julio Torres, Sarah Sherman, Cole Escola, Eva Victor, Elsie Fisher, Tavi Gevinson, Grace Kuhlenschmidt, Jack Corbett, and Joe Pera as their voices.

The movie was created at Glander’s Pittsburgh-based studio, Glanderco, with Peisin Yang Lazo taking on the role of executive producer.

Glander, famed for his game ‘Art Sqool’ and animation work across Adult Swim, Disney, HBO Max, and Cartoon Network, stated that industry insiders are buzzing about a potential box office sensation with ‘Boys Go to Jupiter’. They believe it has the makings of a massive blockbuster with broad appeal. However, he clarified that this is not his assessment, but he’s thrilled to be collaborating with Cartuna and Irony Point.

According to James Belfer, founder and CEO of Cartuna, “Julian is operating on an entirely different wavelength.” He describes ‘Boys Go to Jupiter’ as bursting with color, emotion, and musical eccentricity. It’s almost like if a future-era Saturday morning cartoon was transmitted here. We’re incredibly excited to assist in bringing this unique creation to the world.

Daniel Powell, co-president at Irony Point, expressed his enthusiasm by stating: “We couldn’t find a more suitable debut for our distribution endeavors than Julian Glander’s outstanding film. It features many of our cherished collaborators in its voice cast. The world should witness this exquisite miniature masterpiece immediately, so we can begin planning the following 15 chapters in the ‘Glanderverse’ expansion.

Established by James Belfer and Adam Belfer, Cartuna is a Brooklyn-based firm specializing in animation, independent, and cult films. Cartuna plans to release their upcoming movie “Dead Lover” in theaters. Some of Cartuna’s and the Belfers’ recent projects include Sundance premieres like “Obex” and “By Design,” as well as “AJ Goes to the Dog Park,” “The Johnny Ryan Movie,” and “Silence Sometimes.

This past year, I had the pleasure of acquiring the late-night screening sensation “Dead Lover” for release under the joint venture of Cartuna x Dweck.

Irony Point, a production company headquartered in both New York and Los Angeles, is spearheaded by Daniel Powell and Alex Bach. Some of the series under their belt include “Life & Beth,” “I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson,” “Fantasmas,” “Inside Amy Schumer” (co-created by Powell), “That Damn Michael Che,” and “Ugly Americans.

The two companies also made their Broadway debuts investing in Tony-nominated hit ”Oh Mary!”
